Where life is not a rat race
Tips: Cultural shift - easygoing people, no stressful, fast life, helpful people, but a language barrier in Freiburg. No scholarships. I work as a student assistant HiWi in a lab. I am happy with the university. Germany is good, but without Indians around, it is a bit boring.
Likes (Internships): Yes, in my current lab where I am working, the professor is very nice and helpful. Yes, the internship is in Physics, which is my major. My professor is really good and very helpful, guiding me in everything. Lab members are also really helpful. If you ask them something, they will immediately help you without hesitation.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Most of the restaurants here provide European food. I like cooking myself, and Indian Mart is very far and far from my accommodation. The prices of the restaurants are around 15-20€ for any kind of main course dish, so I don't usually eat there. There are some options for cheap doner, which is actually very good, near the railway station.

Academically really good and really flexible structure based on our likings.
Tips: There is tuition, feels even though most German public universities only have semester contributions, but Baden-Württemberg universities have fees. And there are limited scholarship opportunities, one is the Deutschlandstipendium, which varies based on universities.

Master of Science in Microsystems Engineering - Batch of 2027

Warm, English friendly, beautiful, well connected city with great academic potential.
Tips: Tuition fees per sem is 1500. An international city with a lot of English speakers. The warmest city in Germany. Beautiful and aesthetic. The border of Germany, Switzerland and France is excellent for travel lovers. Microsystems engineering due to poor exposure doesn't have a lot of applications, although the number of chairs in this department is very high. So compared to my friends in other universities, finding Hiwi and post study jobs are easy. As this is the border of Germany, finding a logistics part time job is relatively easy too. I am yet to apply for scholarships, as part time money helps me balance my tuition fees and living expenses. I'm very satisfied with the university, course and country.
Likes (Post study jobs): For the microsystems engineering course which due to poor exposure, doesn't have a lot of applying students. So almost everyone either ends up with a job or a PhD. The number of chairs in our department is 24, and students can find jobs in university departments, Hahn Schickard or Fraunhofer institutes close to university. These places offer both PhD and job opportunities. Along with this PhD across Europe in other universities is an option. Bosch and other companies in Stuttgart are some places students have relocated to if they want industrial roles. The industrial roles have good pay while the PhD roles have TVL scale pay. As the microsystems course has different specialisations to choose from studying, a wide range of roles are possible to apply.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian food options are average and there are no unique positive things worth mentioning in Freiburg about Indian food. Theres a Indi Lanka mart store which provides the necessary Indian groceries. Easy to cook food options like Idli, dosa batter, Frozen chapati, naan, other staples of Indian easy to cook food are available here. When it comes to Indian restaurants, nothing is worth the price. This is expected in all cities, across foreign countries. As Freiburg is situated on the border of Switzerland, France and Germany. The network of transport is good and if you want to eat in an Indian restaurant in Germany or in Switzerland, it's easy to travel.

Good facilities and diverse learning environment.
Tips: Accommodation is quite difficult to get for many students both international and EU students because of the housing crisis in my city but also generally in Germany and many other EU countries. So I would recommend searching for it well in advance. I have not availed any scholarships but there are a few and they are naturally competitive. I'm satisfied with the university and my course, I couldn't complain about it. However, my city although beautiful, is quite expensive compared to other cities in Germany but Germany has significantly lower tuition fees.

Experiencing German research-focused education, cultural development and personal growth.
Tips: It was certainly a cultural shift to come to Germany as an Indian student and pursue my studies at university. The education system here is knowledge-based and focuses deeply on conceptual understanding. While working on my thesis, I gained practical insight into how research projects are carried out and I gained immense knowledge while working on practical concepts. People here are really helpful and friendly in nature.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Professors are really friendly. They are ready to solve your queries in class, and if you need help, you can approach them anytime, they will help you. Even while doing a part-time job or internship under them, they will help you understand the work and get the concept while doing research on new things. They have expertise in their field.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer to cook my own meals. There are several Indian stores in the area where fresh vegetables, fruits, and groceries are readily available. There are also vegan restaurants in the city centre. Also, there are my restaurants with good vegetarian options as well. There are 3-4 Indian restaurants for occasions when you crave indian food though dining out would be a bit expensive.
