TUHH changed my life for the better
Tips: Look the number one piece of advice for anyone heading to TUHH is simple: grind as much German as you possibly can before landing in Hamburg. Everyone says it, but you don't realize how true it is until you’re trying to handle German bureaucracy, read a rental contract, or just buy groceries without using Google Translate every five seconds. Moving to a foreign country means a major culture shock anyway, but the language is what makes or breaks how smooth that transition actually feels.
As for the university itself, I honestly have zero complaints. The courses at TUHH are tough but completely worth it and living in a massive port city like Hamburg is an incredible experience. If you’re willing to put in the effort to integrate and learn the local language, you're going to love it here—the setup, the professors, and the overall lifestyle are top-tier.

Good University of research
Tips: The main cultural shift is the language, and without the language, landing a werkstudent or part-time job has become difficult for the past few years. I am satisfied with the course in terms of subjects we have, but the ratio of students to professors is lower.
Likes (Public transportation): The public transport is well connected with S-bahns, buses, RE, and U-bahns. The university provides a Deutschland semester ticket (the cost of this ticket is covered in the semester contribution), which covers the public transport cost except ICE trains. With the semester ticket, public transport throughout Germany is free of cost (except for ICE trains and long-distance trains).
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The professors are approachable easily, but since M.Sc. Data Science is a new course, there are frequent changes happening in the curriculum and also restructuring of faculty. The teaching faculty is not that diverse, but professors do not discriminate against students based on nationality.

TU Hamburg is gaining attention in recent days for its research and capstone projects
Tips: Of course, there were many cultural shocks I experienced initially. However, I am used to them by now. Except for the cold weather for almost 8 months of the year, everything else is pleasant. The language is, of course, another thing that I am still transitioning into. It is quite difficult for internationals to learn the language. I was awarded the Deutschlandstipendium (German Scholarship) by the state. I applied through the university portals and got an allowance of 300 euros every month for a year. I am quite satisfied with my university and the course I am currently studying. For education, Germany offers one of the best qualities. For jobs, at the moment, it is not quite there. Hoping that it goes back to its glory days soon.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is, in general, very relaxing in Germany. Students are free to take however long they want to finish their studies, giving them a lot of freedom and stress-free education. There are a multitude of events and clubs a student can join based on his/her interests. Students are also free to open their own clubs on campus, provided they have the right leadership and following. I was part of the Indian student association as a volunteer. In addition, I also helped with the creation of a new swimming course on campus called Learning to Swim for beginners.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): At the moment, the job market in Germany is not great. A lot of the companies do not have the funding or plans for hiring. A few years ago, it was ideal. Almost everyone who graduated got a job post-study. The jobs now are limited, and the hiring has become very strict. But as far as I know, there are still well-paying jobs in engineering—especially IT and administrative/management positions. Salary range between 50000 and 70000 euros for entry-level jobs.

Strong Education, Great Opportunities and student-friendly Environment
Tips: Before joining, students should be prepared for a self-study-focused academic system and independent learning. The transition was smooth, though adapting to German culture and communication style took time. I did not receive a scholarship. Overall, I am satisfied with the university, course and opportunities available in Germany.
Likes (Public transportation): Honestly, transit here is just a no-brainer to rate high because getting to the TUHH campus is incredibly easy. Hamburg's whole setup with the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and buses is just seamless, and since the university is right by Harburg station, you can pretty much get to your classes from anywhere in the city without any head-scratching. The absolute best part of being a student here though is the Semesterticket. You pay your standard uni fees and that’s it—your travel is sorted for the whole term. Not required to constantly drop cash on individual train tickets or stress about fares is a massive lifesaver when you're living on a tight student budget.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I went with a lower rating for post-study jobs because even though Germany has a lot to offer on paper, actually tracking down a job after graduating from TUHH is a massive grind. Sure, the massive players out here like Airbus—which has a huge footprint right here in Hamburg—plus Siemens, Bosch, and Volkswagen are always hiring international graduates and are totally fine with sponsoring work visas. But the reality on the ground is that the competition is brutal. If you're gunning for the solid engineering roles, your chances are pretty slim unless your German language skills are up to scratch. It doesn't matter how great your tech background is; if you can't communicate with the local teams you're fighting an uphill battle.

Learn, grow, develop, and enjoy.
Tips: I did experience a cultural shift, but the environment is so friendly and nice. I was an Erasmus Mundus Scholar getting 1000 euros per month. The faculty was amazing, the students were nice and friendly, and there were so many events and festivals.
Likes (Public transportation): Very convenient as well as cheap. You get a student ticket for subsidised rates and you can travel anywhere with that. The campus is extremely well connected and public transport is very nice and fast. U bahns and S bahns made life very easy and regular buses also.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): No campus placements, so you really have to look out for jobs on your own during your thesis which is hard. It's best to look for an internship beforehand and talk to them to convert you into full time once you graduate, otherwise it can be a bit tricky.
