Tilburg University is a so-called ‘special university’ and was founded in 1927. So, unlike the state universities, Tilburg comes under a private law foundation. The university was founded as a Catholic Business School. It was the first institution in the Southern Netherlands. The history of Tilburg University in a nutshell is given below:
- In the year 1963, the Law School and School of Sciences was established. Then, in 1971, the first female professor, the legal expert Prof. Madzy Rood-De Boer was appointed

- After this, in the year 1998, a student center was opened. After so many name changes, in the year 2001, the university got its name as the University of Tilburg
