Q:   What is the SAT registration fee for Indian students?
A:

SAT registration fees is USD 68. Then, a regional registration fee is USD 43 and a few taxes. Total SAT exam fees in India is USD 130.98 or INR 11,611.

Q:   What is SAT exam registration eligibility?
A:

As such there are no eligibility criteria laid down by The College Board for registering for the SAT exam. However, since SAT is for admission to undergraduate programs candidates are advised to appear for their SAT while in class XII or after passing out from class XII. Also, those who decide to apply abroad for an udergraduate course admission and their university requires them to submit a SAT score are also eligible to register for SAT and appear for the exam too.

Q:   What are the registration deadlines for SAT?
A:

Ideally, the official SAT registration deadline is 15 days before the SAT exam date. In case applicants are unable to register for SAT on the prescribed date, they can register for SAT with a late fee within a week after the official SAT registration date.

So if the SAT exam date falls on March 8, the official SAT registration date will be February 21. However, those who miss the February 21 registration date, can register for SAT with a late fee by February 25. This is how SAT registration deadlines are predefined by College Board.

SAT Registration 2026 Eligibility

For students planning to study abroad in 2026, the SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) remains the primary standardized test for undergraduate admissions, particularly for the US, Canada, and increasingly for universities in Singapore and Europe.

In 2025/26, the exam is fully Digital (shorter, adaptive, and taken on a laptop/tablet).

Here is the detailed breakdown of the eligibility criteria for the SAT Exam and requirements for Indian students.

1. Official Eligibility Criteria (The "Rulebook")

Technically, the College Board (the body that conducts the SAT) is very flexible. There are no strict "barriers to entry".

  • Age Limit: There is no minimum or maximum age limit

    • Practical Norm: Most students take it between the ages of 17 and 19.

    • Under 13: If you are 12 or younger, you can take it but cannot register online; you must register via phone/mail.

    • Over 21: You must present a valid government-issued photo ID (passport/driver's license) at the center.

  • Educational Qualification: There is no specific academic requirement.

    • Practical Norm: You do not need to be in a specific grade (Standard 11 or 12) or stream (Science/Commerce/Arts) to register. You can even take it after Class 12 (during a gap year).

  • Minimum Marks: There is no minimum percentage required in your school exams to appear for the SAT.

2. The "Real" Eligibility: Documents & ID (Critical for Indians)

This is the single most common point of failure for Indian students. You must have valid identification to enter the test center.

  • Primary ID (Highly Recommended): A Valid Passport.

    • It must be original (no photocopies), physical, and unexpired.

    • The name on your SAT registration ticket must match your passport name letter-for-letter.

  • Secondary ID (New Update): The Aadhaar Card is now technically accepted at some centers, BUT it comes with strict conditions:

    • It must be the original PVC Card or a hard copy letter (digital versions on phones/ DigiLocker are often rejected).

    • Advice: Because test center staff can be inconsistent with Aadhaar verification, using a Passport is significantly safer to avoid being denied entry. Plus, you will need a passport for your visa process later anyway.

3. Digital SAT "Technical" Eligibility

Since the exam is now digital, you must meet the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) requirements to be eligible to sit for the test.

  • Device: You must have a laptop (Windows/Mac), an iPad, or a school-managed Chromebook.

  • Application: You must be able to install and run the Bluebook™ application before exam day.

  • Power: You should bring a fully charged device (battery life of 3+ hours is recommended), though centers usually have power outlets.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   Who all are eligible to take the SAT test?
A:

There is no age limit set by the College Board. But the rules are different for:

  • If a candidate is 13 or old then he/she can create a free account on College Board and register online
  • Candidates who are 12 years or younger can register only through mail or phone. Such candidates need not pay the phone registration fee
  • Candidates studying in the eighth grade or lower need not include a photo during registration. However, they need a valid photo ID at the exam center
  • There may be students who may want to go for PSAT and be eliible for giving the SAT exam.
Q:   Can a student register for SAT exam after the 12th without results?
A:

Yes, international students should ideally register for SAT after their class XII whether or not their results have been announced. The students who already make up their minds during their board exams or after board exams to apply to foreign universities can register for SAT exam. They can choose their dates with utmost care and register for those SAT exam dates when they would have some preparation for it and would be able to appear for the exam as well.

Q:   Does SAT require 12th marks to fulfil eligibility?
A:

No, SAT does not require class 12th marks as part of SAT exam eligibility fulfillment or for the registration purpose. SAT exam only requires applicants to be undergraduates and those aiming to apply for the same in universities abroad. Thus, applicants can appear for SAT exam even if they are not class 12th passouts.

Q:   Can I select multiple SAT dates while registering for SAT exam?
A:

While registering for SAT exam students are permitted to choose only one SAT exam date. There is no option of making multiple selections for SAT exam dates on College Board. Students ideally should prepare themselves and ensure that they apply for the SAT date only when they are able to sit for the exam and score as per their expectations. Thus, making changes to SAT dates is possible but multiple selections are not. Applicants should thus, make up their minds before hand and then make the final choice because altering choices can be costly for them at a later stage.

Q:   What is the registration date for SAT?
A:

The registration date for SAT exam is decided by College Board who conducts SAT exam. For each SAT date, a designated registration date is given along with the late registration deadline. Usually College Board releases the half of the SAT dates one year before, and registration dates are released as when the SAT dates approach. Thus, the deadlines for Scholastic Aptitude Test registration must be crefully looked at to avoid missing on the opportunity to appear for the exam.

A:

The ideal way to register for SAT exam as an Indian student is through the online mode. Since the process of online SAT registration is easier, more flexible and accessiblilty is any day better, it is only feasible to apply for the SAT exam online. The process of offline registration for SAT can be tedious and may not allow students to make changes in the already submitted application.

Also those who wish to re-register for SAT if they miss on the already registered SAT date is possible through the online application mode and not applicable for offline registration modes. In case the applicants wish to register for the SAT exam on a late registration deadline, then this is also possible through the online mode in place of the time taking offline mode of application.

Applicants should ensure they have enough funds to be able to submit for SAT exam fees and that the transaction doesn't abort in between. Thus, applicants should keep the minimum amount in the bank account and pay accordingly for the SAT exam fee.

Q:   Can SAT registration be done five days before the exam?
A:
