GMAT Superscore Is Here in 2026! Your Best Scores, Finally Counted Together
GMAC has launched GMAT Superscore recently. This is a free feature that automatically combines a candidate's best section scores across multiple GMAT attempts. Rolling out in August 2026, it aims to ease test-day anxiety. This shall help them show their best performance to B-schools, without any extra cost or effort.
GMAC has introduced a new scoring feature called GMAT Superscore. This is designed to help applicants put their best foot forward during the admissions process. Announced on June 15, 2026, the feature will automatically calculate GMAT superscores based on current and previous attempts. Candidate's strongest section-wise performance scores will be given. This will benefit the applicants and give B-schools a better picture of their abilities.
What is the GMAT Superscore?
GMAT Superscore works by:
'Pulling the highest score a candidate has achieved in each section across multiple test attempts of the latest GMAT edition, then combining these into a single, more favourable composite score.'
It applies to attempts taken either at a test centre or online, and comes at no additional cost. Once live, the Superscore will appear directly in a candidate's mba.com account and will be added as an extra data point on Official Score Reports sent to programs, alongside individual test results.
According to GMAC, this move responds to a long-standing problem in the admissions cycle: test anxiety. Many capable applicants undersell themselves to schools or skip applying altogether after a single test attempt fails to reflect their true potential. By rewarding consistent effort across attempts rather than one isolated score, GMAC hopes to reduce the pressure tied to a single sitting.
Why GMAT Superscoring Matters for Students?
For Indian and other international students who often take the GMAT more than once to improve specific sections, this update could be a meaningful relief.
- Applicants don't need to worry about overshadowing their ability on GMAT exam day.
- Candidates can now retest strategically, focusing on individual weak sections.
- Only their best scores will count toward the final picture schools see, so there will be room for GMAT re-attempts.
GMAC's research team has also pointed to academic literature suggesting superscoring is linked with better predictive accuracy compared to relying on a single composite or most recent score.
Official GMAT Superscoring Rollout Timeline
GMAT Superscore is expected to go live in August 2026. Admissions leaders, including representatives from Cornell's Johnson Graduate School of Management, have welcomed the change, noting it gives applicants more flexibility and reduces some of the stress tied to standardised testing during an already demanding admissions journey.
