Michigan Technological University Celebrates Graduation

The university celebrated the Graduation this weekend where scores of Huskies participated in the event.

Study Abroad: While enrollment continues to grow at the Michigan Technological University, it celebrated its Graduation this weekend. Two ceremonies were held - one on Friday for graduate students, and one on Saturday for undergraduates.

As per the report of The Daily Mining Gazette, Entrepreneur and philanthropist Chang K. Park delivered the commencement address at both ceremonies. He is president and CEO of Universal Remote Control Inc., which he founded 30 years ago. The Tech alumnus graduated in 1973 with dual degrees in electrical engineering and engineering administration.

42 PhD, 258 Huskies earn their master's degrees at Graduation

A total of 42 PhD students and 258 Huskies earned their master's degrees during the Graduation. The graduate student speaker was Zazil Santizo-Huerta, who earned her Ph.D. in mathematical sciences.

"We have the power to effect positive change in the world around us, and I know we will do it with the same enthusiasm and camaraderie that has brought us all together here today," she said.

The Fulbright scholarship learned about Tech while an instructor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where she received her undergraduate degree. She will soon move to Los Angeles, where she has accepted a university teaching position.

Vincent Barfield addressed the 760 undergraduates. He was completing dual bachelor’s degrees in Mathematics and computer science. He is looking for a software development position where he builds data-based models for machine learning. "We're Huskies, we learned it all in the Copper Country," he said.

MTU Unveils H-STEM Complex to Foster Innovation and Collaboration

Michigan Technological University announced the completion of the H-STEM Engineering and Health Technologies Complex (H-STEM Complex) after five years of planning and two years of construction.

"The opening of the new H-STEM Complex ushers in a new era of health care innovation at Michigan Tech. Coupling state-of-the-art lab space with faculty expertise and innovative partnerships, the H-STEM Complex isn't just a building, it's a hub for developing advanced technologies to improve health outcomes for the citizens of Michigan and beyond," said Rick Koubek, Michigan Tech's President.

H-STEM Complex is designed to encourage integrated educational programs focusing on health-related and human-centred technological innovation and collaborative research. It will house transdisciplinary, hands-on and student-led research.

H-STEM Complex combines new shared and flexible laboratory spaces spanned over approximately 63,000 square feet, with renovated classrooms and learning environments within the existing Chemical Sciences and Engineering Building.
