Microbial Foods Are Sustainable, Healthy And Resilient Source Of Nutrients: Imperial Report

According to the new report by Imperial College London, microbial foods can be used as an effective alternative source of nutrients in the UK.
Study in UK: Imperial College London has published a paper that says that the UK is well-positioned to utilize microbial foods as an alternative source of nutrients. The paper highlighted the issues of the current food system of the country and said that microbial foods can be the best alternative.
The paper stated that microbial foods can be engineered to have a health, nutrient-dense profile and require fewer resources than current animal-based food options. The country has great potential to be a leader in this sector and contribute to economic growth by improving the national food supply.
To push the growth of the sector, the report advises boosting infrastructure and investment in R&D along with the more closer relationship between researchers, entrepreneurs, and the regulatory office.
Imperial Alumni Startup Raises £1.2M To Scale Its Low-Carbon Foam Material
Carbon Cell, founded by the Imperial alumni Juan Ignacio Rion, Eden Harrison, Ori Blich, and Elizabeth Lee, provided an alternative to polymer-based foams. It raised £1.2m pre-seed round to scale its product. With funding, it provides an alternative to polymer-based foams that is plastic-free. This provides a great alternative to the conventional plastic foams in sectors like insulation and packaging with its low or negative carbon footprint.
Liz Lee, founder and CEO of Carbon Cell, commented, "Traditional foams have dominated for too long at the expense of our environment. At Carbon Cell, we’re rethinking materials from the ground up, creating a carbon-negative foam that performs today and protects tomorrow. This investment will help us take the next big step in scaling production and bringing Carbon Cell to market.”
Liz Lee, Carbon Cell’s founder and CEO said, "Support from Imperial's Enterprise Lab and the greater entrepreneurial ecosystem has been absolutely invaluable to launching our business after founding the company while at the College. Undaunted's Greenhouse program provided us with the very first capital we got to kick the business off, and early mentorship and coaching on pitching and business strategy from We Innovate was crucial to accelerating our growth."
