Study In Australia: Apply For PhD Degrees At Deakin University

The application for the PhD degrees at Deakin University will temporarily close from March 10, 2025, to March 25, 2025.

For pursuing research degrees at Deakin University there are various study periods. In 2025, the intake dates are as follows - Feb 26 for intake 1, May 1 for intake 2, July 1 for intake 3 and October 27 for intake 4.

“If you are an international student undertaking a research degree or PhD with the Faculty of Arts and Education, you can’t commence in intake 1. If you are applying for a research degree or PhD with the Faculty of Business and Law, you can’t commence in intake 2,” says the Deakin University statement.

The application deadlines for the Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship (DUPR) and Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship are - March 9, 2025, for 2025 domestic round 2 for mid-year intake, August 24, 2025, for 2026 international round for Feb 2026 intake, and October 24, 2025 for 2026 domestic round for February 2026 intake.

“These deadlines do not apply to applicants for the Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM), the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI), or the Applied AI Institute (A2I2), who can apply at any time,” added Deakin University statement.

Entry Requirements For Research Degrees At Deakin University

Each type of research degree has specific requirements. For PhD degree, a degree at level 8 or 9 of the Australian Qualifications Framework should be complete with a minimum overall grade of 70%. The degree should be in the relevant area and must comprise a research component which should be around 25% of the final year’s full-time study, the score should be at least a Deakin grade of 70% in the research component.

For a master's degree in research also degree at level 8 or 9 of the Australian Qualifications is required with a minimum Deakin grade of 65%.

For a Master of Philosophy (Medicine), either a master’s or bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject is needed or Completion of the pre-clinical component of the Doctor of Medicine.

The applications for research degrees at Deakin University are to close temporarily from March 10, 2025, to March 25, 2025. A new portal for applications for graduate research degrees will be launched on March 25, 2025. To avoid disruptions, the aspirants are advised to submit their applications by March 10, 2025, at 5 pm AEDT.
