History
Yale US traces its roots to the 1640s, when colonial clergymen tried to establish a local college in the tradition of European liberal education. Then, in 1701, the Connecticut legislature decided to establish a Collegiate School. In 1718, this school officially became Yale College. Next, in 1813, Yale School of Medicine was founded. In 1822, Yale Divinity School was founded. Then, in 1861, Yale University became the first university in the U.S. to award Doctor of Philosophy degrees. In 1878, Yale Daily News (the oldest college daily newspaper) was founded. Then, in 1976, Yale School of Management was founded.
