Study In US: Epsilon & Tufts University To Set Up “Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute”

Study Abroad: For Innovation in Advanced Material Research for Clean Energy Transition, Epsilon & Tufts University have announced the establishment of “Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute”.
Epsilon has collaborated with Tufts University to launch a new research institute focused on materials science and engineering. The new research institute will be established at the School of Engineering at Tufts with an $11.5 million sponsorship.
While commenting on the collaboration, Vikram Handa, Managing Director, Epsilon, said, "The establishment of the Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute is a proud moment for me as a Tufts alumnus,s which is a significant step towards our mission to drive sustainable innovation. This collaboration strengthens our commitment to R&D in high-performance battery materials, supporting the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions in the U.S. Our investment in building a 60,000-ton graphite anode facility in North Carolina will help build a robust supply chain for energy transition by innovating in advanced materials and enhancing material circularity. We believe this institute will foster the collaboration needed between academia and industry to address the global energy challenges we face today”.
Tufts University President Sunil Kumar, said, “Creating impactful solutions for today’s energy challenges requires a purposeful, collective vision and dedicated researchers to realize that vision,” he said. “This new institute will help us achieve those goals and chart a course for future growth and impact. Together we will translate academic research into immediate, tangible, commercial applications that will power new directions in the energy industry.”
About Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute
To address global challenges in sustainability and energy, the institute will work towards advanced innovations in battery materials. The institute aims to contribute to a more circular and sustainable economy for various sectors by promoting partnerships between industry and academia.
To solve real-world problems, Tufts Epsilon Materials Institute is all set to partner with multi-disciplinary centers and institutes, different departments, Tufts Institute for AI (TIAI), and industry partners.
The research will help in developing advanced battery solutions for the next generation of the global market. The partnership will also help bolster India’s EV30@30 initiative. This initiative intends that by 2030, EVs should account for 30% of new vehicle sales.
Under this new sponsorship, the School of Engineering will get funding for three new faculty positions and also seed funding to support future partnerships focusing on developing safer, cleaner, and more sustainable energy solutions.
