University of East Anglia launches placement-integrated Master’s programmes
The University of East Anglia (UEA) has introduced PG courses with a placement-year option. These Master's courses combine academic study with real-world industry experience. This option allows students a pathway to global employability. UEA has partnered with an organization specializing in placement support to offer a structured employability programme across Year 1 and the first semester of Year 2.
The students who will opt for the Master’s degree at UEA with the placement year have to pay GBP 3,500 (Around INR 4.42 L) for the placement year, in addition to the standard Master’s degree fees. This fee has to be paid in two installments.
How many courses are included in the placement option at UEA?
At the University of East Anglia, 60+ postgraduate courses are offered with a placement year option. The study fields of UEA PG courses for which this placement option is applicable are:
- Business
- Computing
- Engineering
- Media
- Health Sciences
- Environmental Sciences
These Master’s courses are of 2-year duration, which combine classroom learning with practical professional experience. This placement is a mandatory part of the specific PG courses of UEA and usually takes place in Year 2.
What is the duration of placement?
The industry work placement is usually undertaken with a UK company for 8-10 months. For the progress of the placement component, UEA students should complete all the taught modules, including the dissertation and the attendance requirement. Also, the students are required to meet the academic and English-language entry criteria for their chosen UEA course. The last date to apply for the Master’s courses at UEA is July 20, 2026.
What is included in UEA Placement integrated Master’s Courses?
The key details for the UEA Master’s degree with placements are:
- During the 1st-year of the Master’s degree at UEA, students are going to undertake a year-long Employability skills module. Students are going to benefit from workshops on resume writing, interview preparation, and more. Note that this is a pass or fail module and students have to ensure that they attend 75% or more sessions to pass or progress to the placement year in the second year
- In the 2nd-year, the placement module is designed as a single 60-credit bearing module. During the first semester of the second year, students will have to undertake an intensive period of placement search. Students are going to have dedicated support for this search, along with 6 workshops held in-person. At the end of the placement search, if students have not secured an industry work placement, they will undertake a series of 3 industry projects
- At the end of the module, students are required to submit the assessment. This should contain a portfolio of materials regarding the job search (in the first semester) and a reflective report on the placement
