The applications for MA in Screenwriting will be considered on a holistic basis which means that candidates with exceptional portfolios and writing experience can be selected even if they do not meet the minimum academic eligibility criteria.

University of Manchester offers MA in Screenwriting

Study in UK: The University of Manchester has invited applications for MA Screenwriting. The applications are open for recent graduates with Upper Second class honors degree or its overseas equivalent in a humanities-based subject area. It is a one-year course where applicants with exceptional portfolios and writing samples can be selected even if they do not have the minimum required academic qualification.

The course will help the writers to develop a writing voice, and learn professional practice which helps them get employment opportunities across the UK, television and global film industries. The course focuses on developing students' collaborative, professional, creative and entrepreneurial skills. The course can also help students in getting internship opportunities with a professional screenwriting mentor or at a production company.

The fee for international students including EU students is £27,500 per annum, for UK students, it is £13,500 per annum.

English Language Requirements

The applicants must have an overall grade of IELTS 7.0 with 7.0 in writing and no skill should be below 6.5 or they can show the scores of TOEFL iBT which should be 100+ with a minimum writing score of 25 and no skill below 22.

Some students do not need to submit the English language requirements, these are those who have successfully completed an academic qualification deemed by UK NARIC which is equivalent to a minimum UK bachelor's degree or higher from these countries - St Kitts and Nevis; St Lucia; St Vincent and the Grenadines; Grenada; Guyana; Ireland; Jamaica; New Zealand; Bahamas; Barbados; Belize; Dominica; Antigua & Barbuda; Australia; Trinidad and Tobago; UK; USA.

"Applications that pass the portfolio assessment by the Programme Director will be invited for an online interview, after which a decision to make an offer, reject or waitlist, will be processed within a few weeks of the stage deadline. Offers must be accepted within one month of the offer being made, or by 30th August for any offers made after 2nd August," reads the official statement.
