University Of Victoria Offers Computing Gateway Program At New West Shore Campus

The University of Victoria in Canada has announced the offering of the Computing Gateway program at the new West Shore campus. This campus is around a 20-minute drive from downtown Victoria and is in the middle of the Goldstream Village neighbourhood. The campus is currently under construction. The last date to submit the applications for the Computing Gateway program for September 2025 is April 15, 2025.

Dr. LillAnne Jackson, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies in UVic’s ECS Faculty commented, "The new Computing Gateway Program is an excellent route for those who are interested in computing and want to keep their options open, and for those who function well in collaborative, team-working environments. Students will engage together in classes as part of a small cohort, getting to know each other and their instructors. Learning supports will be available to them and they will be able to learn for up to two years in the program and then have the opportunity to choose a pathway and transfer to a specific program at UVic’s Gordon Head campus if they’d like to continue their academic studies.”

Dr. Mina Hoorfar, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) at UVic said, "The new West Shore campus is an exciting collaborative educational model that expands opportunities for students to learn throughout our region. Community-based education in the heart of Langford through the new campus is exciting because it means that locally based students can learn where they live, as well as offer them exciting future opportunities to further their education through pathways to UVic’s many top degree programs.”

University Of Victoria Computing Gateway Program Details

Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Victoria will lead the development of this program. It is an entry-level course that offers the first two years of study in the university's computing-focused degree such as Data Science, Computer Science, and Software Engineering.

The program will commence in September 2025 and will be provided in small, cohort-like classes. It is available in both full-time and part-time mode.

"This is the first time that entry into these three similar discipline programs at UVic is being offered together, giving students a unique opportunity to experience courses that lead to any of the three fields, and deferring for up to two years the need to make their specific program choice. The program is designed to be accessible, flexible and expand educational offerings for students throughout the region to begin their post-secondary education journey, while sparking an interest in the rapidly evolving field of computing," reads the university statement.
