Scholarship Overview

• University of ottawa offers Edmund and Isobel Ryan Scholarships in Science
• The fund was established by Edmund and Isobel Ryan in 2001. Mr. Ryan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ottawa in 1936. He appreciated what his education contributed to his life and the role his alma mater, the University of Ottawa, played. From 1960 to 1978, Mr. Ryan was Secretary of the Municipality of West-Hull, now Chelsea, in the province of Quebec. In 1936, Mrs. Ryan, originally from British Columbia, began her studies in art. The first year, she was registered at the Manchester School of Art in England and continued for three years at the Oakland School of Art in California. Unfortunately, Mr. Ryan passed away a few days after this fund was established
• The purpose of the fund is to provide two scholarships: one scholarship to a deserving student registered full-time in the third or fourth year of the Honours program in Biopharmaceutical Science and one scholarship to a deserving student registered full-time in the third or fourth year in the Honours program in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Science of the University of Ottawa

Eligibility

• The applicant must: 
  • be registered full-time in the third or fourth year of the Honours program in Biopharmaceutical Science OR in the third or fourth year of the Honours program in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Science of the University of Ottawa;
  • demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa;
  • demonstrate academic excellence; and
  • have the intention of pursuing medical studies

  • the Financial Questionnaire; and
  • a letter from the applicant stating his/her intention to pursue medical studies after completion of the bachelor degreein Science.
