• Established in October 2010 by the Women's Association of the Mining Industry of Canada Foundation and representing a bequest made by Sophia Wood who, along with her husband, John Marsh Wood, were a prospecting team working in the Canadian North.

Eligibility

• This scholarship is awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic achievement to students in the third year in the Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science or the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering in the Faculties of Arts and Science and Engineering and Applied Science
• The award is renewable in year four provided a satisfactory academic average is maintained in year three and financial need remains evident
