For me, machines that defy gravity to fly high in the sky or beyond is the biggest marvel of science and technology; attending the Aero India Air Show at the age of 14 reinforced this belief. Witnessing the agility of fighter jets like the MiG-29UPG and Su-30MKI, as well as the enormity of C-17 Globemaster, I had discovered my passion for aerospace engineering. As a result, I started learning about unique aircrafts such as Su-25, B-1 Bomber, and SR-71. Eventually, I enrolled in my Bachelor of Technology in Aerospace Engineering in 2021. Now, as I explore my field a little bit more every day, I find it more and more exciting, which has inspired me to learn more about it through higher studies.

A pivotal moment in my Bachelor’s was my three-member research work on optimizing aerodynamic performance through cant angle variation in symmetric winglets for tapered wings. I identified the problem statement, worked on winglet design, and ran multiple CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations. I even presented my work in my college’s Technical Research Poster Competition, and became the first runner-up.
Beyond core curriculum, I have been a Design and Fabrication Engineer at the Aerospace Systems Research Laboratory, a student-run technical club at my college, from November 2022 to August 2023. I participated in the development of fixed wing and rotary UAVs, thereby acquiring skills in CAD, CFD, and composite materials like carbon fibres and resins. Additionally, I was the leader of the mechanical domain of Team SRM Autonomous Underwater Vehicle. With my team of seven members, I had successfully designed an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle. This project enhanced my practical knowledge in buoyancy control and interdisciplinary collaboration substantially.
To gain practical exposure, I undertook my first internship at 11 Base Repair Depot, Indian Air Force, and worked on a project involving the Total Calendar Life Extension Study for MiG-29 aircrafts. It required micrometry, non-destructive testing and functional testing procedures, followed by meticulous analysis of dimensional changes between the present overhaul and previous overhaul history. It led to the formulation of recommendations to extend the aircraft’s service life from 40 to 49 years.
Later, in my second internship with Aircraft Research & Design Centre at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, I was involved in analysing aircraft fuel refuelling and transfer systems using Siemens Amesim. I focused on pressurization, gravity transfer, and flow dynamics to improve the fuel system’s efficiency that consisted of simple centre tank, left wing tank and right-wing tank. I optimized system reliability and functionality by identifying and addressing potential failure modes.
In all my academic and practical experiences, I have not only honed my technical skills but also solidified my interest in aerodynamics, CFD, and UAV design. My proficiency in SolidWorks, CATIA, ANSYS Fluent, and Siemens Amesim has prepared me to tackle advanced challenges in aerospace engineering. A Master’s degree is the natural progression in my journey that will deepen my knowledge of hypersonic aerodynamics and CFD to address the existing challenges within the aerodynamics sector.
Following my Master’s degree, I aspire to work as an Aerodynamicist or CFD Engineer at one of the leading companies such as Airbus, Boeing or Embraer. I envision contributing to cutting-edge projects in aircraft design and aerodynamics, especially the long body, high-range aircrafts. I am particularly drawn to exploring innovative solutions to reduce drag, improve fuel efficiency, and enhance the overall performance of aircraft systems. In the long-term, my specific interest is to work on VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) drones.
