History
Founded in 1791, the University of Vermont is part of the oldest institutions in the United States, that opened its doors in the same year that Vermont became the 14th state in the US.
The institute was the fifth college to be established in New England after Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth & Brown.
Its initials UVM stand for the Latin words Universitas Virdis Montis or the University of the Green Mountains.
