Birmingham City University Highlights

Birmingham City University, a public institute, came into being as a merger of five individual colleges in 1971 as the City of Birmingham Polytechnic. Those five colleges were Birmingham College of Art, Birmingham School of Music, Birmingham College of Commerce, South Birmingham Technical College, and North Birmingham Technical College. In 1992, Birmingham City University got its university status. The university also got a new name – the University of Central England in Birmingham in 1992. Finally, in 2007, the University changed its name to Birmingham City University and received a new logo, a reworking of the tiger crest.

Birmingham City University Scholarships 2024

BCU UK also provides merit-based scholarships to deserving undergraduate international students. A student's academic background is taken into consideration for the scholarship.

Non-EU International Undergraduate scholarships: These are admission scholarships given to international students who are self-supporting. It holds a value of 2,000 GBP and goes towards paying tuition.

Non-EU International Postgraduate scholarships: Similar to its undergraduate equivalent, this fellowship is given to international students and is worth 2,000 GBP. The criteria for selection and grant money will be the applicant's academic record and previous degree grade.

BCU Achievement Scholarships: These 3,000 GBP scholarships are given to graduating overseas undergraduate students, and they are only available to those who receive a first or second-class undergraduate degree. Candidates must be advancing into a master's programme.

Students from all around the world are eligible to apply for admission to BCU UK during the fall (October intake). Early October marks the beginning of the online application period, which is on first-come, first-served basis. The application deadline is Jan 31, 2024, for majority of the programs. A good educational institution.

Tips: BCU is good for taking admission and studying in UK. The University is a multicultural institution where we can make friends from different countries like Japan, China, USA, etc. The faculty is so friendly and studies are stress free. Students should know the skills of doing work on laptop because studies and assessment are done through assignments and most of the Indian students are only familiar with pen and paper.

Likes (Value for money): Birmingham City University offers education that is so helpful for getting a good job in England. They offer support for every aspect of life. I was given £2000 bursary on joining. Students can borrow laptops from library and the staff is friendly. They offer huge work opportunities within the course.

Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The Graduate route scheme is introduced by the Government which gives two year work visa to the students after course completion. However, after two year work permit, the steps are unclear. Students have to look for companies that may sponsor them for further visa. These companies sometimes ask for huge amount of money in exchange for sponsorship.
