The life at University of Manchester.
Tips: The University of Manchester in general has 2 types of scholarships: the Global Future Scholarship, offering £ 8,000, and the GREAT Scholarship, offering £ 10,000. When it comes down to the quality of study, the University of Manchester offers the best return on investment. The faculty is extremely friendly and highly motivated to educate us.
Likes (Student Life): The University organizes a lot of career fairs to directly speak with recruiters and get to know more about the company and its policies. The University has various student projects, including Formula Student, Hyperloop, and the UAV Society. Apart from student projects, there are other societies as well, like the drama society, signing society, and debate club.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): There are a lot of companies that have the license to sponsor, depending on the field of work. But this does not mean that every company will sponsor you. For graduate roles or entry roles, the starting salary is somewhere in the range of 26000-28000 pounds. This salary threshold doesn't fall under the sponsorship umbrella, so most of the graduate opportunities are not for international students.

Tips: Studying at the University of Manchester is about way more than just getting a degree—it completely accelerates your personal growth. Moving to the UK comes with a real culture shock, from local civic habits to how heavy the drinking and night culture can be around student hubs.
Academically, it’s a huge breath of fresh air compared to India. The coursework is incredibly practical rather than theory-heavy. For my very first assignment, we actually built a database for a custom Manchester-themed Monopoly game instead of just writing endless essays. On top of that, Manchester is easily the biggest tech hub outside London, so tech meetups, startup events, and networking opportunities are everywhere. I was awarded the £8,000 Bicentenary Global Futures Scholarship, which was credited straight toward my tuition fees. If you're coming here, be ready to step out of your comfort zone.

You won't learn significantly more than you did during your bachelor's degree in India.
Tips: I got bicentary global futures scholarship, the allowance is 8000 pounds. I am not satisfied with the course, country and university; they don't consider the difficulties that international students face. I believe education in India is far better than in the UK.
Likes (Public transportation): It is connected very nicely; there are trams and buses. It's expensive if you compare it to India. The prices increase every year. It's convenient to walk and then take the bus. If you travel in larger groups, take a cab, and you can split the same amount. The bus fare is 2 pounds one way.
Dislikes (Internships): You just get guidance for resume making, but you have to find and apply by yourself. No relevant internships. They dont take international students at all. You will see that all the Britishers of your class are getting it but not you as an international student.

Tips: Students should inquire about the modules and other facilities provided by the university. Alongside this, the safety of the city is also something important to look into. Also check if the university is city-based or campus-based, depending on the kind of lifestyle one wants to have. Campus-based universities are situated in the countryside and can feel a little remote. Studying in a city-based university means everything is nearby, and you don't have to spend hours on public transport to go out for a social outing.
Likes (Public transportation): Getting around Manchester as a student is ridiculously easy and cheap, which is why I gave public transport a top rating. For starters, the 147 bus runs straight down Oxford Road through the main university campus and is totally free if you show your student ID. Plus, the Free Bus routes 1 and 2 make getting around the city centre and going between Piccadilly and Victoria stations completely free for everyone.
For everything else, Andy Burnham’s Bee Network has made bus travel super affordable. Single fares are capped at £2, and no matter how many buses you hop on in a single day, you'll never pay more than £5 total. Between the constant buses running up and down Oxford Road and the Metrolink trams connecting you to places like Salford Quays or Didsbury, you honestly don't need a car at all.
Dislikes (Internships): I gave internships a low rating because my specific modules didn't offer any built-in placement options or course-integrated internships. You are pretty much expected to hunt for opportunities on your own through external job boards or the university’s Handshake portal.
While the University of Manchester Careers Service is useful for fixing up your CV or running mock interviews, they don't hand out placements or match you directly with employers. The UK internship market around Greater Manchester—and across the UK in general—is brutally competitive right now. Unless your degree has a built-in placement year, you have to do all the legwork yourself. Finding time to apply to dozens of places while handling a full course load at Manchester gets overwhelming fast.

If you are able to utilise your time and opportunities well, It is an ideal option for early ROI.
Tips: The university is heavily academic. Come ready, for you have to read a lot of papers and write research papers. Choose your course wisely, as courses sound similar, but course structure can be different. Apply for scholarships early, as the spots tend to fill quickly. Try to live in student accommodation (either from the university or private), as it significantly reduces your stress. These accommodations organize events that allow you to network with students outside of your cohort.
Likes (Public transportation): I gave it a 5 because getting around Manchester is just incredibly cheap and easy. They use the yellow Bee Network buses and Metrolink trams here, and everything has a daily spending cap. You basically won’t cross five quid a day for bus fares, no matter how much you're hopping on and off. The city center and the main campus along Oxford Road are also completely walkable, so if you land a student house nearby in a spot like Fallowfield, you can honestly save a massive chunk of money just by walking to your lectures. Plus, having Manchester Airport sitting right on the direct train line within the city limits makes traveling back home or catching international flights entirely stress-free.
Dislikes (Internships): The university provides career workshops and guidance, but they don't have any dedicated placement cell for internships. They give sessions for CV review, interview preps, etc., but no specific companies come for special drives. You need to make your own connections, ask for opportunities, and network to get those positions.

The experience has been decent & not exactly worth the money you pay.
Tips: The university isn't very safe (the stabbings and phone snatchers are real); please be aware. Never travel alone at night, especially. Always carry some sort of protection (pepper spray, etc.). Never be too distracted at weird new places (take the usual routes). Overall accommodations are nice but expensive, & the cheap ones will come free with silverfish & rates for real: //If you want student club surroundings, allow Field Campus (the best accommodation is Unsworth Park; the worst is Oak House). If you want to be close to the library and university, allow Whitworth Park accommodation. The best of both world's is city center accommodation (you are in bus proximity to the city centre & the university) The university isn't generous with scholarships, so if you have better options like LSE or UCL, please pivot to those, as they are better value for money in terms of reputation as well as curriculum. I was studying law, & it was a decent experience. Please buy a bus pass at the start of the semester.
Likes (Indian Food): Indian restaurants are on every corner; you will find plenty of places to eat Indian food at. My personal favorite is ITR (Indian Tiffin Room). Try their Cheese Dosa; it's hands down better than India. The Indian food outside is obviously expensive (so please learn how to cook your own meals if you're on a budget). You can get Indian groceries easily.
Dislikes (Part time work): Finding a legal & decent part-time job is quite hard. The main reason being preference for cash workers (many businesses prefer to hire cash in hand workers, who work below legal wage (this is extremely common in Desi businesses/places)). In Manchester, all the jobs near "CURRY LANE" are of this category. Cash in hand again isn't easy, as the UK has a lot of illegal immigrants & refugees. *Never work cash in hand, as not only are you at a serious legal risk, but you will be completely exploited at work. Overall finding legal jobs is a challenge, as Manchester is a study-centric place with students of all kinds (the competition is fierce). Average payout is £11-14 for retail, restaurant, and similar roles. Best of luck, xoxo.

The University of Manchester usually takes about 3 to 8 weeks to provide Indian students with an admission decision. For UG courses, students generally hear back within 3 to 6 weeks.
Delays often happen during peak admission process in October and January.
