The University of Eastern Finland is a public university founded in 2010 by the merger of two universities viz. the University of Kuopio (est. 1972) and the University of Joensuu (est. 1969). Thus the university has two campuses, one in Joensuu and another in Kuopio. The university offers undergraduate, graduate and research-based courses in 13 disciplines. The university is famous for its research courses all over the world.

University of Eastern Finland Eligibility Criteria 2025
There is only one intake annually at the University of Eastern Finland. The University of Eastern Finland admission requirements for both bachelor's and master's courses are given below.
To get admitted to UEF’s bachelor’s courses: In most cases, international students remain eligible to study bachelor’s degree programs in Finland if they are eligible to get higher education in their home country. Students in the final year of their upper secondary education are also eligible to apply. The students will be required to present their upper secondary education certificate. The deadline to submit an application is 22 January 2025.
Along with this, students are required to add a translated copy of their diplomas by the stipulated deadline, i.e. 30 May 2025 to their online application forms.
To get admitted to UEF’s master’s courses: Students must have completed at least three years of bachelor’s degree from an internationally recognised institution. Also, the student’s bachelor’s degree should also entitle him to do a master’s degree in their home country. A conditional acceptance can be provided to students if they are in the final year of their graduation and have not received their degree yet. For master's courses, students must submit their bachelor’s or master’s transcripts along with their translations by 3 PM on 29 January 2025.

Apart from these, the university does not allow waiving the language proficiency test. So, students are required to qualify for the desired test as per their chosen course.

There are two modes of application, one through joint application and the other through a separate application. For admissions to bachelor’s and master’s courses in the September 2024 intake, students will be required to fill out the joint application form only on the national Studyinfo.fi portal. With this application form, the students will be able to apply for 6 different programs simultaneously.
Post the submission of the online joint application form, the students will receive a confirmation email. Students can make changes to their applications by clicking on the link given in the confirmation email only till the end of the application period. However, they would still be able to upload documents to their applications even after 7 days of the end of the application period. The application process can be completed in the following steps.
- Visit the national Studyinfo.fi portal and choose the program you wish to study.
- Fill out the online application form and submit the required documents either in PDF or jpeg format with a file size not exceeding 1 GB.
- Submit the application before 3 PM of the prescribed deadline.

Usually, there is only one intake yearly at UEF and the studies begin the following September. Students can apply to the bachelor’s and master’s courses for the September 2025 intake at the University of Eastern Finland starting from January 08, 2025. The deadline to fill out the application form is January 22, 2025.

EU and EEA citizens are exempted from paying tuition fees. However, international students belonging to non-European nations have to pay yearly tuition fees of €10,000. The amount of tuition fees remains the same throughout the entire duration of their course journey.
Tuition Fee Waiver
Students must apply for a tuition fee waiver within their application forms. A maximum of 50% of the total tuition fee can be waived. The tuition fee waiver is granted for a maximum of 4 semesters for the master’s degree and a maximum of 6 semesters for the bachelor’s degree.
