Q:   Can I study at Aalto University for free as an Indian student?
A: 

Indian students who wish to study at Aalto Uni for free can do that if they can secure a 100% merit scholarship to study in Finland. 

Without a scholarship however, it is not possible to study at Aalto Uni for free. The university does not offer exemptions on tuition costs to Indian students on a Finland student visa.

Q:   Does Aalto support Indian students in finding jobs?
A: 

Yes, Aalto Uni does help Indian students in finding part-time and full-time jobs both on and off-campus. The Aalto University Career Design Lab offers many employment related services. All of these are provided free of cost.

Students can also find open positions on-campus (including teaching and research assistant roles) on the university website.

Q:   What’s life like in Finland as an Indian student?
A: 

High-quality practical education, a safe study environment, and clean air is what Indian students get in Finland. However, adapting to the cold winters may take some time.

Q:   Can I go on an internship abroad during my studies at Aalto University? Do I have to pay a tuition fee for that?

Yes, students can go on an internship abroad or an exchange programme during their studies at Aalto Uni. For that, a tuition fees does apply. However, if a student is on a scholarship, the internship or exchange programme will be covered under that.

Q:   Can I defer the start of my studies with one year at Aalto University in Finland?
A: 

No, students cannot defer the start of their studies at Aalto. The Finnish Universities Act does not allow the same.

Aalto does have competitve admissions and sees high demand from across the globe for its practical study environment and low tuition costs. As per some unofficial sources, the Aalto University acceptance rate for Indian students is between 18% to 20%.

Q:   Are there any other costs I should be aware of before applying to Aalto University in Finland?

Yes, in addition to the tuition and living costs in Finland, students also need to pay a Student Union fee worth EUR 66 (INR 7.2 K) and a student healthcare fee worth EUR 70 (INR 7.63 K) per year. 

The student union fee can be paid via the Aalto University Oodi system while the healthcare fee is paid directly to Kela via the Omakela online service.

  • Residence permit status changed before enrolment to Aalto Uni
  • If Aalto is unable to offer the degree programme

Partial refund of tuition costs is done if a student's Finland residence permit status changed during the studies.
