History
American Film Institute was founded in 1967 as a National Arts Organization. But, the history of AFI goes back to 1965. The institute's first class included David Lynch, Terrence Malick, and Paul Schrader. In 1969, AFI established the AFI Conservatory. Then, in 1981, AFI moved to its current 8-acre Hollywood campus.
