Established in the year 1878 by Spiritans, Duquesne University is one of the most prestigious Catholic universities in the United States.
Founded nearly 140 years ago as Pittsburgh Catholic College, the esteemed university is the one and only Spiritan institute of higher education in the country. The first class of the Pittsburgh Catholic College comprised of merely 40 students and six members of the faculty. Seven years later i.e. in 1885, the university's original "Old Main" building was set up. It is still actively used as the administrative building on campus In the year 1911, the university was renamed Duquesne University of the Holy Ghost and in the following year, the School of Law was founded, which is deemed to be university's first professional school. In the subsequent 30 years, the university witnessed significant development, as a result of which it established five more schools. In 2008, the university established a new building, which comprises a fitness center, retail shops, a bookstore, a restaurant, and banquet facilities.
