Master of Science in Human Genetics and Genetic Counseling 

at Keck Graduate Institute, Claremont

Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) requires that all prerequisite courses be completed by August 2025. These courses may be taken at any accredited university or two-year community college. Each course must be completed with a grade of B or better. Students seeking clarification on specific prerequisites are encouraged to contact the admissions office at admissions@kgi.edu, providing the name of the school, course number and title, course description, number of credits (semester or quarter), and the grade received, if applicable.

The required coursework includes 3 semester (or 4 quarter) credit hours each in Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Genetics—with Genetics required to have been taken within the last 10 years (preferably within the past 5 years). Additionally, applicants must complete 6 semester (or 12 quarter) credit hours in Biology, 3 semester (or 4 quarter) credit hours in Statistics, and 6 semester (or 8 quarter) credit hours in the Social Sciences, which may include subjects such as Psychology, Sociology, Communication, Anthropology, Counseling, or Cultural Studies. While not mandatory, courses in embryology, bioethics, anatomy, physiology, epidemiology, organic chemistry, and communication are strongly recommended.
