Lehigh offers strong career support.
Tips: Start your career planning early. STEM advantage networking matters. Public transport is reliable. Location proximity is good. Living without a vehicle is easy. Do things you never did. Go out more often. Stay career ready. Prepare yourself for every challenge. Be ready for it.
Likes (Public transportation): The campus is well-connected to Bethlehem and nearby cities through buses like LANTA, which are frequent, reliable, and student-friendly. Students often use the free university shuttle system as well. It is affordable and convenient, especially for travel.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Lehigh offers strong career support, and its STEM programs make you eligible for a 3-year OPT extension. Common job roles include Data Analyst, Software Developer, and Business Analyst, with starting salaries typically ranging from $70k-$90k. It’s worth it.

On-campus positions typically offer hourly wages aligned with university guidelines.
Tips: Prospective students should be aware of Lehigh University's strong academic reputation, particularly in engineering, business, and arts and sciences, and understand the demanding yet rewarding academic environment. They should research the campus culture, which is often described as a blend of rigorous academics and a vibrant student life with various extracurricular activities, Greek life, and athletic events. Understanding the location in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding Lehigh Valley area is also important, considering its proximity to major cities and the local community engagement opportunities. Furthermore, students should proactively explore financial aid and scholarship options offered by the university and external organisations, as well as understand the cost associated with attendance. Finally, being prepared for a potential significant life transition, especially for those coming from different cultural backgrounds, and being open to engaging with a diverse student body and the university resources for support will contribute to a successful and fulfilling college experience at Lehigh.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Lehigh University faculty consistently earn high raises for their quality, a reflection of their profound expertise, unwavering dedication to teaching, and commitment to student mentorship. These educators are not only accomplished scholars who contribute significantly to their respective fields through research and publications but also passionate instructors who prioritise creating an engaging and effective learning environment. Their accessibility and approachability foster a supportive academic atmosphere, with faculty members generally encouraging open communication through office hours and personalised interaction. They often go beyond the traditional lecture format, embracing innovative teaching methodologies that emphasise experiential learning, interdisciplinary perspectives, technology integration, and robust discussions, particularly in smaller class settings. While specific pedagogical approaches may vary across departments, the overarching commitment to providing students with a rich and dynamic educational experience remains consistent. Furthermore, Lehigh University generally demonstrates a commitment to faculty diversity, including nationality, striving to create a globally informed and culturally rich academic community through international recruitment and collaborations, thereby enriching the learning environment with a wide array of perspectives and experiences.
Dislikes (Part time work): Balancing part-time work with the rigorous academics at Lehigh University necessitates effective time management and organisational prowess. The university guideline of a maximum of 20 work hours per week for Work-Study students, with many averaging around 7.5 hours, suggests an understanding of the importance of prioritising studies. Moreover, the flexible scheduling offered by some on-campus roles and the reported understanding of academic commitments by supervisors contribute to the manageability of juggling work and coursework. While the demands of a Lehigh education are significant, the availability of on-campus support and the generally reasonable workload expectations for student employment allow many to successfully integrate part-time work into their university experience. The average financial compensation for part-time work at Lehigh University varies depending on the nature of the job and its location. On-campus positions typically offer hourly wages aligned with university guidelines. Off-campus, particularly in sectors with specialised skills commanding higher pay. Students are encouraged to inquire about specific compensation details during the application process to understand the financial aspects of each opportunity.

Strong academics but limited opportunities.
Tips: Lehigh's CS programme is rigorous with strong faculty, but limited industry connections for international students. The suburban campus is quiet with moderate costs. Cultural adjustment involved adapting to active class participation and informal student-professor dynamics. Partial merit scholarships, including 5,000-15,000/year, are available through admission applications. TA/RA positions provide extra funding. Faculty are accessible with diverse international backgrounds. Teaching combines theory with practical projects. Overall, I am fairly satisfied with my experiences. The courses need more electives, and the university has good academics, but it is isolated.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty has strong academic and industry expertise. Professors are generally accessible, offering regular office hours and prompt email response. The teaching methodology blend theory with hands-on projects, often incorporating real-world case studies and research opportunities. The faculty is moderate diverse in terms of nationality, with professors from the U. S. , India, China, Europe, and other regions, bringing varied perspectives to the curriculum.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Limited on-campus recruitment for international students. Few companies actively sponsor visas. Common roles include Software Engineer 80,000 - 1,10,000, and Data Analyst. Most opportunities require OPT/CPT. Check Lehigh's career reports for exact sponsor counts. Networking is key for off-campus roles.

A culturally rich, academically rigorous, and supportive learning environment.
Tips: Before joining this college, students should be prepared for a rigorous academic environment with a strong emphasis on research and practical learning. Time management is crucial, as balancing coursework, projects, and extracurricular activities can be challenging. There is also great support from faculty and career services that students should take full advantage of. When I first arrived, I did feel a cultural shift, especially in terms of classroom dynamics and independence I gradually adapted. Interacting with international peers and being part of campus communities helped me transition smoothly.
Likes (Safety): The campus offers a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere with something for everyone. A typical day involves attending engaging lectures, participating in lab sessions, and spending time at student lounges or the library with friends. I enjoy the cultural fests, hackathons, and regular teach meetups the most. Our campus hosts a wide range of events, including sports-run clubs like coding clubs, cultural societies, entrepreneurship cell, and robotics teams, where I regularly participate and collaborate with peers. These experiences make student life exciting and enriching.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The professors are highly knowledgeable, supportive, and always willing to help outside of class hours. They are easily accessible through emails or scheduled office hours, and they genuinely care about students' academic progress. The teaching methodology includes a blend of theoretical instruction and practical, real-world applications, and it often involves project-based learning and interactive sessions. The faculty also encourages research and innovation, and the department has a diverse set of professors from various nationalities. This brings different perspectives to the class, which enhances the learning experience.

A smooth transition with strong academics and supportive culture.
Tips: Students should know that Lehigh University offers strong academics and a supportive environment. While there is a cultural shift from my home country, I adapted quickly with help from my peers. The merit scholarship I received eases the burden of tuition. The system is highly efficient, affordable, and well-integrated. The campus is well connected to the rest of the city through buses, trams, and metro lines, which run frequently and on time. Most areas can be reached with minimal transfers, and the routes are student-friendly. Monthly or semester travel passes are available at discounted rates, making it cost-effective for daily commuting. Public transport is clean, safe, and reliable, which greatly enhances mobility for students without the need for personal vehicles. Overall, I'm very much satisfied with both my course of study and the country.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): While the country offers structured pathways for international graduates to apply for permanent residence, the process can be lengthy and competitive depending on the region and field of study. My chances of permanent settlement are fair, especially given the demand in tech and engineering sectors, but it requires careful planning and meeting specific eligibility criteria. Given the opportunity, I would be open to permanently immigrating here due to the high quality of life, career prospects, and multicultural environment. However, navigating the legal and administrative steps can be a challenge for many students.
