Northwestern Michigan College: Courses, Admission, Cost

NMC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), ensuring that it meets rigorous educational standards. According to EduRank NMC ranked #1535 of 2,496 in the US and #1620 of 2,597 in North America. Because NMC is an accredited college, its degrees and certificates are usually respected. The college has transfer agreements with reputable institutions making it easier for students to continue their education. The tuition fee for international students at NMC is $394 per credit hour with an estimated annual cost of around $10,880 which is more reasonable than other US universities.

The Main Campus is just a few blocks away from Lake Michigan, and the Great Lakes Campus offers views of Grand Traverse Bay. Students highlight that the teachers are caring and supportive. The professors are very well educated and take the time to really let the students grasp the material in the courses. Most students review mention that the tuition rates are very reasonable with good education quality. There are people of all ages, so it is inclusive and creates a sense of great community.

There are criticisms regarding the quality of food on campus, with some students expressing concerns about health standards. Some reviews mention issues with the organization at the college, including complaints about maintenance problems like fire alarms and general disarray within the administration.

Getting part-time jobs while studying at Northwestern Michigan College is manageable. International students are allowed to work for 20 hours per week during the regular semester and up to 40 hours per week during semester breaks. Students need to notify the International Advisor and apply for the on-campus job opening with a resume and cover letters. Once getting the job ask to submit the offer letter to the Social Security Office to get your Social Security Card. 

Students can find off-campus part-time jobs in retail, food service, tutoring, administrative roles, and childcare. These jobs provide flexible hours that are suitable for students with busy class schedules. Students can earn $15 to $20 per hour depending on the job and employer.
