  • Statement of purpose (an SOP): 2 SOP is essential for the application process for Rice University. The University totally believes that every person has a story to tell and below are the two questions which are supposed to be answered by its applicants in the form of SOP:

  • Essay 1: Rice is a community of curious thinkers, passionate dreamers and energetic doers who believe that improving the world demands more than bold thought and brave action. It takes unconventional wisdom. What does unconventional wisdom mean to you?

  • Essay 2: In the Rice MBA classroom, you will encounter a diverse and inclusive environment. What will you bring to the classroom that is uniquely you?  

  • Essay 3 (Optional Essay): If you have any additional information for the admissions committee or if you wish to clarify any aspect of your application (including breaks in employment, your choice of recommendation providers, your past academic performance, etc.), you may submit an additional, optional essay. (Page limit: One page, bullet points allowed.)
  • Transcripts and degrees: MBA applicants must provide the university with transcripts of their academics with degree certificates. Similarly, applying for PhD or doctoral programme may require a master’s degree and transcripts from all graduate institutions of the applicant. 

  • English Language Proficiency exams: The following table explains the minimum score  of each English exam the university is accepting:

  • Entrance exam: MBA applicants might need a GRE (Graduate Record examination). GMAT, exam. However, if the applicant has the below requirements, the GMAT or GRE can be waived off for the MBA aspirants at Rice University:

  2. 3+ years of work experience

  3. Applicants can submit an executive assessment score at the time of application 

  4. Proffesional certification of CFA or CPA.

Come to Houston, be a Texan. Excellent alumni network.
Tips: I have become a better well-rounded person and could hone my leadership skills. I do not have any scholarships here but I had received offers with scholarships in other universities. I am working as an RA for the dean. I am very happy with the university, course and country.
Likes (Post study jobs): The college has great connections and an excellent alumni network. People usually go into investment banking and consulting jobs. Also, a lot of people go to work in teach industry. Most of the students stay back in Houston, though some of them migrate to the East Cost West cost.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Houston is a very spread out city and it is not developed as a city which favors public transportation. The city expects people to have cars since it is the world's oil and gas capital. And of course, this is Texas, the biggest state in the US. There is a train (metro) which runs close to the college which a lot of students use for commuting.

A growing and refreshing experience.
Tips: It took me a lot of time to adapt to the learning curve here. The way we solve and think is different from India. I am satisfied and happy with the university and the course, I feel I got the money spent was worth it because of the network I built and learning from my peers and overall experience.
Likes (Part time work): I mostly spend studying at the library and working part-time. As the campus is very diverse you get to participate in various events related to their countries, like Latin festivals. I was a part of the Growing club and graduation games club which helped me pass the time and stay fit. I got to meet different kinds of people through this.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The faculty are very approachable and would be willing to help and provide additional resources if interested. I have experienced various kinds of teaching methodologies, some involved in class activity, group problem solving and many more. I feel the faculty come from different parts of the world so it is pretty diverse like the student ratio.
