

Snead State Community College: Courses, Admission, Cost

The Snead State Community College had started as a private seminary in 1898. It was a girls' grade school and was located at the house of Anna D. Elder, the founder. However, it was promptly transferred to the state conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. It was named Snead State Community College after Mr. John H. Snead, a local businessman had donated money and land to the school. In 1935, it was Mr. Snead who had added a junior college to the primary and high schools. In 1941, the college got accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Snead went under the Alabama Community College System in 1967.
The main campus of Snead State Community College is situated in Boaz, Alabama. It sprawls over 43 acres and has high-end athletic and instructional facilities, a cafeteria and a dormitory. It forms the Snead Junior College Historic District. This had been registered in 1998 on the list of Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage, and in 1999, it had been put on the list of the National Register of Historic Places.
The district has a total of 4 buildings. They are the Administration Building which was built between 1920 and 1921, the Boatman President's House that was built in 1936, the Norton Library/Museum that was built in 1940, and the Pfeiffer hall that came into existence in 1942. Snead State Community College has an instructional site set up in Arab. It serves students in the regions of Arab, Guntersville, Brindlee Mountain and other surrounding areas. Snead State had opened up an Aviation College recently. In 2018, they had set up the college next to Albertville Municipal Airport, at 24 Aviation Way. This Aviation Center offers opportunities to people looking to become an FAA-certified Aviation Maintenance Technician.
Snead State Community College has Business, English and Languages Division, Fine Arts, Health Sciences, Humanities, Math, Natural Science, Social Sciences and Human Services, Technology and Computer Science, Library Services, and Career-oriented Technical Studies departments. The offers degree, associate and certificate programs. Associate in Science includes courses in Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Business Economics, Agronomy and Soils, Behavioral Science, Biology Education, Chemical Engineering, and Health Services Administration.
The Associate in Applied Science Department provides courses in Airframe Technology, Applied Business, Child Development, Computer Science Technology, Industrial Maintenace Technology, Nursing Office Administration, and PowerPlant Technology. Certificate courses are offered in Software Application Specialist, Non-Profit Administration, Marketing, Landscape and Grounds Management, General Business, and Logistics, Distribution and Purchasing. Short-term Certificate courses are offered in Apple App Development, Cyber Security, Finance, General Aviation, Building and Property Management, Office administration, Web Technology Essentials, and Medical Billing and Coding.
Snead State Community College has an Alumni Association since 1920. Not only does it have former students of the college, it also includes the people who have been supporters and friends of the college. They are known as “Alumni-By-Choice”. Every year, a scholarship is awarded to a student by the Alumni Association. This Association also produces a newsletter regularly for its members. A former student is presented the Alumni of the Year Award every year based on their contributions to the community, college or country.
