Thomas University is a private university that was established in 1950. Originally, the grounds and the main building were a part of Birdwood Plantation. Earlier, it was the Winter House of W. Cameron Forbes who was the Governor-General of the Philippines from 1909 to 1913 and Japan's US Ambassador starting from 1930 to 1932. In 1976, it was called Thomas County Community College. In December 1998, it got approval from the Commission on Colleges of the SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) which allowed it to give graduation degrees.
In January 2000, the name of the college was changed to Thomas University. In 2013, a new hall was opened in the newest academic building. It was called Smith Bonvillian Hall. It is situated in Thomasville of Georgia. Scholarships are provided to deserving candidates involved in Chorus, Theatre, ENACTUS, Jazz Ensemble, Pep Band, Whitehurst, Magnolia Alumni, Rotaract, Dance Team, T. Rumble, French, Hancock, and Bowling.
The Forbes campus is situated where the Millpond Road and Pinetree Boulevard meet. It sprawls over 29 acres. There is also a campus known as the Magnolia campus which is situated where Pinetree Boulevard and Magnolia Street intersect. It is a 45-acre piece of land. The Magnolia campus has training facilities, classrooms, 2 residence halls, a soccer field, athletic offices, and a gym. The Thomas University library has a huge collection of DVDs, CDs, journals, magazines, popular non-fiction and fiction books, specialized databases, and research materials.
Thomas University offers bachelor's degrees, associate degrees, graduate degrees, and online degrees. Bachelor degrees are offered in Administration, Biology, Biomedical Laboratory Science, Criminal Justice, Education Degrees in Elementary, Secondary, Middle Grades, Humanities, Interdisciplinary Studies, Justice Administration, Management, Marketing, Nursing Medical Laboratory Science, Natural Resource and Conservation Management, Psychology, Rehabilitation Studies, and Social Work. Associate degrees are offered in Law Enforcement and Liberal Studies.
Graduate Degrees are offered in Business Administration, Clinical Mental Health, and Rehabilitation Counselling. Education degrees are available in Curriculum and Instruction, Elementary Education, Middle Grades, and Teacher Leadership. Online programs include subjects like Administration, Criminal Justice, Justice Administration, Law Enforcement, Management, Marketing, Medical Laboratory Science, Psychology, Rehabilitation, RN BSN, Business Administration, Clinical Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counselling, Nursing and Education. Minors include Art, Addictions, Biology, Business, Chemistry and Pre Professional, Communications, Criminal Justice, Education, English, Environmental Science, Geographic Information Systems, Gerontology, History, Mathematics, Music, Psychology, Rehab Studies, Social Work, and Sports Studies.
