What is the rank of Bocconi University in the World?

Bocconi University does not have a single “world – rank” the way a comprehensive University does, QS and THE both leave it out of their main World University Rankings because it’s a specialized institution, not a broad multi-faculty one.

Instead, its standing shows up in three places: strong subject level results in the QS (#12 in the world and #4 in Europe), for Social Sciences & Management in 2026, with several individual subjects in the global (top 10 – 20), an overall global position via US News #538, 2027 edition band arguably its strongest and most internationally recognized credential, the Financial Times’ Business School rankings, through those shift meaningfully from year to year.

Beyond QS, three other bodies rank Bocconi University in different ways, the Financial Times covers the Business School programs, US News gives it a single overall global rank and ARWU (Shanghai Rankings) places the University in a broad band rather than any exact position.

Financial Times MBA and Masters Rankings 

Bocconi University’s MBA and Master’s programs are ranked individually by the Financial Times. It ranks specific programs run by SDA Bocconi that is the University’s Business School. This is one of the Bocconi University’s strongest areas.

Its Full-time MBA program has consistently placed among the World’s top 5, ranking at #4 globally and #2 in Europe in the year 2025. There is an important update for the current year, SDA Bocconi’s full-time MBA was left out of the Financial Times 2026 Global MBA Ranking completely and the reason is all technical. There was not much response received from the alumni to the FT Survey to meet the minimum requirements.

On the executive education side, Bocconi University’s Executive MBA has also performed well, holding up #23 rank world-wide and also a place among Europe’s top 15 programs, making it the highest-ranked EMBA (Executive Master of Business Administration) in Italy.

The University’s Master degrees also round out this strong showing, the Master in Management has been ranked at #13 world-wide, while the Master in Finance came in at #26 globally. Taken together, these results show SDA Bocconi is firmly established as one of Europe’s leading business Schools, with 2026 MBA gap likely to be a short term blip than a setback.

Bocconi University is a specialized University, teaching mostly Business, Economics and social sciences, not a very big University with dozens of departments. So, in general rankings like US News and ARWU (Shanghai Rankings), Bocconi University does not rank very high. It sits round #538 as per US News and the 901 -1000 range as per 2022 on ARWU’S overall list.

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, Bocconi University has been ranked at #10 world-wide and #5 in Europe for Business and Management with an Employer reputation of 80.4 out of 100.

In the QS 2026 subject rankings, Bocconi University has been placed at #18 globally and #5 in Europe. The subject scores a 78.8 out 100 for Employers Reputation. Within Europe Bocconi University is #1 for Economics and Econometrics.

Accounting and Finance

The following subject measures strength in financial reporting, corporate finance, investment analysis and accounting standards. The Employer Reputation score is 77.7. The University ranks #20 worldwide and #6 in Europe.

Marketing

Is Bocconi a Good University Despite Not Being Ranked by QS?

If you’ve just read that Bocconi University has no QS Rankings, it is natural to wonder if it is worth it but it is just how QS Rankings work. QS’s overall rankings are mainly for the big, all-round Universities that do research across many fields – medicine, engineering, sciences and more. Bocconi University does not compete here because it is a specialized University focused on subjects like Management, Economics and Social Sciences.

QS actually explains this itself in their FAQ: specialized Schools like Bocconi don’t show up in the overall ranking, but it shows up in the subject-specific ones. 

When you look at the rankings that actually matters, the University performs quite well.
