History
Established in 1893, AU was founded by John Fletcher Hurst as private university. In 1925, UG first admitted at the university. Then, in 1934, this university launched a program to help train federal employees in new methods of Public Administration. In 1949, the Washington College of Law merged with AU.
By 1955, the business program at AU was launched and in 1924, it became so large that it became a separate school, now known as the Kogod School of Business. In 1984, the School of Communication was established. In 2007, Neil Kerwin became the first alum to become the president of American University.
