Q. Congratulations on your achievement. How do you feel being one of the JEE Main 2017 toppers? Did you expect it?

A.

Thank you so much. Yes, I was expecting a rank in the top 20. However, it came as a pleasant surprise to see my rank in the top 10.

Q. How long did you prepare for?

A.

I joined the coaching institute Bakliwal Tutorials in Class 9 grade but I only started studying properly for JEE since Class 11.

Q. What was your preparation strategy for the exam? What is the minimum time frame needed to prepare for JEE Main?

A.

I was focusing on memorizing important formulas and reactions because direct questions are often asked in JEE Mains. I could only afford to do that because I had studied for it diligently for the past 2 years. I would estimate that at least 1 year of proper preparation is needed to clear Mains as questions are asked from a variety of topics.

Q. What’s was your strategy for JEE Advanced?

A.

For JEE Advanced, I focused on concepts as questions are mainly conceptual and do not require a lot of memorization.

Q. What did you do to improve your weak areas?

A.

When I felt I was weak at a topic, I solved multiple questions of that topic to try and clear the concepts. I also took help from the teachers at BT.

Q. Which institute are you vying for and which is the course you aim to pursue?

A.

I am hoping to get Computer Science Engineering at IIT Bombay.

Q. Have you take any other exam/s besides JEE Main and Advanced? What was your score and rank in those exams?

A.

I only gave BITSAT apart from JEE. My score in BITSAT was 446.

Q. Do you think coaching is required to crack JEE?

A.

I believe coaching is not required as plenty of people each year clear the exam without coaching. However, coaching does give you an edge as the guidance from teachers is invaluable.

Q. Any tips for aspirants taking JEE Main next year?

A.

I would say study hard and smart and not get distracted. Due to the paper being easy to moderate this time, next year paper will probably be difficult.

Q. What plans for the future? What do you want to become?

A.

I hope to go into computer science stream. After BTech I am not sure but I might pursue MSc or MTech.
