UGC NET Exam: The application window for UGC NET was closed on January 23, 2023, 5.00 pm. The candidates were allowed to make payment for the UGC NET application till 11.50 pm. The candidates were allowed to make corrections for the extended dates. Earlier, the deadline for the NTA UGC NET application was extended on January 21, 2023. The UGC NET December Cycle exam is scheduled from February 21 to March 10, 2023.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) revised the upper age limit for JRF on January 5, 2023. According to the new guidelines of NTA, candidates must not be more than 30 years as of December 1, 2022. UGC NET dates for the June 2023 Cycle were announced on December 30, 2023. The UGC NET June Cycle will be carried out between June 13 to 22, 2023.

What is UGC NET?
University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) or NTA UGC NET is a national-level exam conducted in order to determine the eligibility of candidates for only Assistant Professor or both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor posts in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC NET 2023 exam will be held for a total of 83 subjects. Until 2021, the NTA UGC NET exam was conducted for 81 subjects. The UGC NET syllabus differs for all 83 subjects and is prescribed by the University Grants Commission itself. Until June 2018, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the NET exam on behalf of UGC. However, from December 2018 onwards National Testing Agency (NTA) started conducting the UGC NET exam.

NTA takes exams for 83 different subjects to check the eligibility for being an assistant professor or getting a junior research fellowship award or both on behalf of UGC. It is not possible to take the UGC NET exam in a single day. The UGC NET exam continues for more than a month. UGC NET application window for the December Cycle is going to be closed on January 23, 2023. The candidates can apply for the UGC NET December Cycle Exam till 5.00 pm. UGC NETÂ Eligibility Criteria 2023
The basic criteria that candidates must fulfil to meet UGC NET eligibility 2023 are mentioned below in terms of the age limit and qualification:
UGC NET Age Limit 2023:
- Candidates should not be more than 30 years of age in order to be eligible for NTA NET JRF.
- There is no age restriction to applying for the post of Assistant Professor.
- A relaxation of five years in age criteria is given to reserved category candidates.

UGC NET 2023 Exam: Major Changes
The NTA and UGC have introduced certain changes in the conduct of the UGC NET exam this year. Have a look at the major changes introduced by the NTA for the UGC NET 2023Â exam below:
- Hike in application fee: The NTA has hiked the UGC NET application fee from the December 2021 & June 2022 merged cycles. General category candidates now need to pay INR 1,100, General-EWS/OBC-NCL need to pay INR 550 and SC/ST/PwD/Transgender category needs to pay INR 275 as application fees.
- Number of subjects increased to 83: The UGC has increased the UGC NET subjects list to 83Â by introducing a new subject- 'Hindu Studies' (Subject code 102)Â to the list of subjects.Â
- Exam centre cities added: The UGC NET 2023 exam will be conducted in a total of 541 exam centre cities. The UGC NET 2021 exam was held in 239 cities.
- Answer key challenge fee reduced: The NTA has reduced the provisional UGC NET answer key 2022 challenge fee from INR 1,000 to INR 200 per challenge.
