History

In 1971, the college’s counsellors adopted the name “Camosun”. The college officially celebrated opening its doors as a post-secondary institute offering vocational, transfer, and upgrading courses. However, the history of this college traces back to 1970, when the Government gave authority for the establishment of “Juan de Fuca College.” Then, in 1980, The Grant Fisher building officially opened at the Lansdowne Campus. In 1970s and 80s, Camosun College Business Division was growing. In 1980, the Business Division graduated 300 students. Also, in 1980, the college enrolled international students for the first time.

In 1985, the Mechanical Engineering program was started. Then in 1986, this college’s first co-op program began. In 1996, the college celebrated its 25^th anniversary. Then, in 2011, the college introduced its first Women in Trades program. In the year 2021, Camosun College celebrated its 50^th anniversary.
