History
UNB’s Fredericton campus was established in 1785 and its Saint John Campus was established in 1964. The history of this university began with a petition presented to Governor Thomas Carleton in Dec 1785. It was basically started as an academy. By 1829, the academy became King’s College and the building now known as Sir Howard Douglas Hall was officially opened. In 1859, the act creating a secular provincial university of the University of New Brunswick was passed. By 1931, a Memorial Hall, a modern library, and the Forestry and Geology Building were added.
