History of Tbilisi State Medical University
Tbilisi State Medical University was established in 1992 on the basis of medicine faculty at Tbilisi State University. On June 10, 1930, Tbilisi State Medical Institute was established by the university that included three faculties Dental department, Sanitary-prophylactic and Pharmacologic-chemical. Currently, there are five faculty TSMU: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, public health, physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Indian students must fulfil the following requirements set by the NMC (National Medical Commission) to be eligible to practice medicine in India after pursuing a degree from abroad.
Students must clear FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) which is conducted by NMC. The exam ensures that students are capable of practicing in India.
Duration of an undergraduate programme must be atleast 54 months and one year internship.
The primary language of the programme must be English.
The programme must cover all subjects including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology and clinical.
Students must get enough practical exposure and hands-on training where students can easily communicate with the patients. One year internship in India is mandatory.
The university must be recognised by the medical council of their respective country and must be included in the list of medical institutions provided by NMC.
National Exit Test (NEXT) is required for permanent registration in India.
