UTM Malaysia Admissions 2025: Application Deadline, Requirements & Costs

For the mainstream undergraduate programme at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, students can apply via UTM application system Smart. The documents that have to be submitted along with the application are given below.

Undergraduate Applicants 

• Certified photocopies of official certificates (High School / Diploma / A-level or equivalent)
• Certified photocopies of translated certificate (if issued other than English and Malay language)
• Certified photocopies of qualification certificates
• Certified photocopies of English language proficiency test scores (IELTS / TOEFL / PTE)

Yes, international students applying to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia need to show the proof of English language proficiency and for the same purpose, IELTS is required.

Yes, UTM Malaysia offers scholarships to international students. The details of some of the offered scholarships are given below:

• UTM Young Scholars Grant: Open to international students registered in PhD and Master by Research programs in UTM. But, for international students only those enrolled in doctoral programme are eligible
• International Doctoral Fellowship: The application for this fellowship is open to full-time international PhD students at UTM Malaysia who are currently in the 1st semester until 6th semester only. For applicants in 5th and 6th semester, priority is given to those students who submit notification of thesis submission

Living Cost

The cost of living for international students studying at UTM is low compared to international students. The living cost will vary from USD 200 – USD 400 a month depending on individual needs and lifestyle. The accommodation for on-campus students is around USD 120 – 250 per month. On the other hand, the off-campus accommodation cost can vary from USD 100 – USD 500 per month.

UTM Malaysia admission requirements vary as per the undergraduate and graduate courses. The admission requirements are given below:

Undergraduate

• The applicants are required to have a Senior High School Certificate or equivalent pre-university qualification
• Meet the English language proficiency requirements

The applicants are required to pass the Faculty interview (if applicable)

Master’s Degree

• The applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree with good honors from UTM Malaysia or any other institute of higher learning recognised by the State

OR

• The applicants should have a qualification equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and experience in the relevant field recognised by the Senate

Doctoral Degree

• The applicants should have at least a master’s degree

UTM entry requirements for international students for an MSc Software Engineering course are given below:

• A bachelor’s degree
• IELTS Academic with 6.0 score / TOEFL with a score of 60 / PTE with 69 overall score

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia MBA admission requirements are given below:

• An honors degree from UTM or other recognised universities or an equivalent qualification is required
• Some of the professional qualifications will also be considered
• Minimum CGPA of >3.50 for fresh graduate or minimum CGPA >3.00 with 2 years of working experience or minimum CGPA 2.00 < 2.99 with 5 years working experience is required
• English language proficiency score is also required
