The Federation University started in 1870 at SMB Campus, which was primarily known as the School of Mines Ballarat. The campus is located in Ballarat making it easy for the students to access shops, cafes, and public transport. SMB Campus also includes the Federation College, the Manufacturing Technology Training Centre, and the Building and Construction Training Center. However, the SMB Campus does not offer on-campus residence accommodation but a range of off-campus residence facilities. Students also have access to affordable and relaxed lifestyles, vibrant nightlife, café, cultural scenes, and famous local festivals.

Camp Street Campus is regarded as the dream of students offering Visual art studios, multiple performance spaces, and other beautiful buildings to explore.
