The University of the Fraser Valley was formerly known as the University College of the Fraser Valley and Fraser Valley College. This Canadian public university has campuses across Mission and Hope, Chilliwack, British Columbia, and Abbotsford.

Some of the major disciplines that the university focuses on include aviation, technology, business, education, and accounting. The university has five faculties, a College of Arts, and a graduate school. Currently, more than 15,000 students are enrolled in the university. Around 48% of the students are studying full-time at the university, scoring around nine credits and more in the semester. The university has around 2,300 international students.

The university also has an international campus in Chandigarh, India. Different centers of the university are located in different places, the major centers being the Aerospace Center, the Hope Center, the Agriculture Center, the Trades and Technology Center, etc.

The University of the Fraser Valley offers more than 100 programs. Currently, the university hosts 17 bachelor's degree programs with majors, minors, and extended minors. However, the university has the flexibility to provide only three master's degree programs. International students may choose their study program through the following faculties:

The international students can also apply for the eight master’s, graduate, and post-baccalaureate programs. What are the eligibility requirements?

 

International applicants must have completed an equivalent grade level of Canadian Grade 12 (Form 6 or 5 O-levels). Furthermore, they should have appeared for the entrance exam as specified under a specific course to get admission to academic, technical, or career programs.

The university follows the guidelines for English proficiency requirements for various undergraduate and graduate programs. These are as follows.

Upon finishing the online application process, international students are required to pay a non-refundable application fee. The fee is different for different courses as stated in the table below:

What is the fee structure of the courses offered by the university? 

 

Compared to other Canadian Universities, the University of the Fraser Valley has the lowest tuition fee. According to the university’s rules, the tuition fee needs to be paid before the registration procedure. However, the fee structure is subject to change, depending on the rules set by the university in a particular academic year.

Scholarships & Financial Aid

 

Is there any scholarship or financial aid available for international students?

 

Students need to apply for a 6-8 week scholarship before the starting of the program. The University of the Fraser Valley provides the option of student financial aid, bursaries, and financial aid for international students to exempt them from additional charges.

International students applying for admission at the University of the Fraser Valley are considered eligible for these scholarships. However, it is necessary to meet the basic eligibility requirements.

The International Excellence Entrance Scholarship is renewable, providing CAD 20,000 over four years. Around 10 students get this scholarship every year.

Another scholarship offered by the University of the Fraser Valley is the International Regional Entrance Scholarship meant for students from East Asian, Latin American, and African regions. Each applicant gets around CAD 5,000, and 30 students per year are awarded the scholarship. The student should have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

When do the admissions start?

 

The different semesters serve as intake terms at the University of the Fraser Valley. International students can apply for admission in either of the following intakes:

International students should apply four to six months in advance to meet the university's criteria. This is mostly because applicants get more time to complete the formalities.

What are the steps to the application process?

 

The step-by-step process of applying to different graduate and undergraduate programs at the University of the Fraser Valley is as follows:

Step 1: Visit the admissions page on the official website at ufv.ca/admissions/.

Step 2: Click on ‘Apply to UFV’ and choose ‘New International Applicant’.

Step 3: Click on ‘First Time Applicant’ and register.

Step 4: Enter your details and then confirm by clicking on ‘Register’.

Step 5: Once you register, you will need to choose your course under the university's undergraduate and postgraduate schools or courses. The applicants can choose from Diploma, Regular Bachelors, and Certificate Programs and submit their applications.

Note: You need to apply along with the documents in proper order. If the documents aren't arranged properly, there's a high chance of your application getting rejected. Once you submit all the details, the university will send you a confirmation letter based on your eligibility.

There is no estimated time within which you will hear from the university. However, the university will send you a link to track your application process. You can also track the application status from its official website under the given link. Hence, it is advisable to keep track of your application process.

Also, because of the high number of international applications received by the university, it may take a long time to receive a response from the university. For some programs, the university might need up to 6 weeks to review an application.

Applications received from students from India, Vietnam, China, Pakistan, Morocco, the Philippines, and Senegal might be processed faster than the applications received from other countries. However, students can expect a response from the university within 4 to 13 weeks from the application date.

What are the chances of getting into this university?

 

Students who score above 6.5 bands on IELTS and 88 on TOEFL iBT have higher chances of getting into this university. Therefore, students who meet the academic requirements and have reasonably good English language proficiency test scores may get admission to UFV. Some programs include subject-specific requirements such as Science, Mathematics, etc.

Also, applicants who do not meet the subject-specific requirements can get conditional admission to UFV, but they are required to undergo an upgrading class in the respective subject to get entry into the main program.

Part Time Work While Studying

 

Can I work while studying here?

 

The students of the University of the Fraser Valley can take up on-campus jobs while studying. Off-campus jobs can only be undertaken once students complete 6 months as full-time students. Also, they must have a valid study permit to be eligible for these jobs.

Students may also participate in co-op programs offered by UFV that allow them to earn money while gaining valuable experience in their respective fields. This option is available to international students who hold a Canadian study permit.

Students can also take up volunteering work to get recognition of participation in co-curricular activities by the university.

Note: International students are advised to check the conditions of working in a foreign country on their study visa. They are also advised to confirm any specific instructions on the same from their respective departments and faculties. Off-Campus Housing

There are several off-campus facilities in the form of basement suites and shared houses. Students must run a security check on any off-campus accommodation they choose. Also, they must prepare for the additional charges and facilities offered in off-campus housing.
