Hebei United University: Courses, Admission, Cost

Founded in 1926 by a British surgeon, Hebei United University (HUU) was formerly known as North China Coal Medical College. The merger of Hebei United University and North China Coal Medical University resulted in one very large prestigious government university recognized by WHO. It offers educational programs at an affordable price. In 1998, the university transformed into a co-administered unit by the Government of Hebei Province and the Coal Ministry, primarily co-administered by the former. Hebei United University is one of the 10 key universities of Hebei Province, China. It is located at the center of Bohai Bay Rim in the most promising city Tangshan, with picturesque Yanshan Mountains to the north and the Bohai Sea to the south.

The university consists of 31 colleges, offering 76 undergraduate and 138 master’s programmes including 4 professional degree programmes and 12 master’s of engineering programmes. Engineering and medicine serve as the backbone of the comprehensive university, facilitating harmonious development in the fields of engineering, medicine, sciences, economics, management, law and humanities. Master’s and bachelor’s degrees in various branches of science are offered to students through 28 educational programmes by the university.

The state-level characteristic approved specialities of the university include Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Metal Materials Engineering, Clinical Medicine, Mechanical Design Manufacturing and Automation, Rehabilitation Therapeutics, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Nursing, Civil Engineering, and Preventive Medicine. Further, approved key provincial disciplines include Metallurgy, Mining Engineering, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Engineering, Materials Processing Engineering, Materials Science, Bone Surgery, Epidemic and Vital Statistics, Industrial Economics, Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Respiratory Medicine, Labor Health and Environment Health, and Pathology and Physiology.

Key laboratories and research centres established in the university are Modern Metallurgical Technology Lab of Hebei Province, Inorganic Non-metallic Materials Lab of Hebei Province, Earthquake Engineering Research Center of Hebei Province, Mine Developing and Safety Technology Lab of Hebei Province, Coal Mine Sanitation and Safety Lab of Hebei Province, and Coal Chemical Engineering Research Center of Hebei Province.

HUU has highly educated faculty consisting of 1651 teachers including 326 professors and 494 associate professors, out of which 232 teachers hold doctoral degrees and 80 are scholars with honorary titles awarded by the State, Province and Ministry of Education. The university has eight campuses equipped with latest technological learning resources with first-class language labs and multimedia classrooms, e-reading rooms, CAD centers, computing centres, audio-visual centres and network centres.

HUU pays high attention to international exchange and cooperation through teacher and student exchange, joint education programmes, regular academic seminar, international school programmes, joint scientific research, etc. It maintains associations with more than 20 foreign universities including University of Lincoln, Institute of Education London University, University of Leeds, University of Northumbria, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Purdue University, Colorado Technical University, California State University East Bay, Everett Community College, University of British Columbia, University of Ottawa, and Hokkaido University.
