Good campus life offered here.
Tips: I notice that the campus is really nice and campus life here has something for almost everyone. The class sizes are smaller than I had expected but at least it leads to better student teacher interaction and very involved lessons. Office hours are actually useful and professors do their best to accommodate everyone so you don't need to be nervous or hesitant. Not worth coming here in your undergrad, though.

Welcoming campus and great social life.
Tips: My first impression here was that things are very fast paced as the academic calendar here moves quickly because of the quarter system so it seems like once you start figuring things out, the lessons get over. Otherwise the Indian community is quite active; there's stuff like cricket matches and events quite regularly. Housing costs tend to vary based on where you're staying.

Tips: What I liked the most here was the practicality and career focused aspect of classes here. Great co op program and solid industry experience.
Tips: The biggest reason for my coming here as is the case for a lot of other students in my batch is because of the co op programme and the industrial experience you gain because of it. The lessons learnt here are super valuable and the student life offered has been fun and exciting as well. Lots of students are spread out in the city, giving it a college town feel. There is no guarantee when it comes to employment and sponsorship so make sure you apply in other countries as well.

Drexel - Worth the investment.
Tips: It was a smooth transition, no big culture shift except for rules and regulations. People are very friendly and welcoming. I didn't get any scholarships but there are definitely some options if you want one. I am very happy with the choice I made. I am enjoying it here.
Likes (Student Life): Good facilities, gym, sports and many others. You feel you have everything to enjoy your college life, there are many events organized by clubs here, join a club and you will be even more involved, there is always one or the other event happening every day, so you can never miss one.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Given the current situation, I am not sure the possibility of getting a permanent settlement here, but given a chance too, I am not very curious or excited about it. I plan to move back to India and live with my family, I am here for educational purposes.

Indian societies are quite happening on campus.
Tips: Almost all of Drexel's business programs are conducted with a good blend of data tools, projects and theory. Transitioning was a little challenging but mentor groups and the orientation conducted were helpful and even though part time jobs aren't available much, you can still earn via the co op programs. Campus life is a nice break from all the work and the Indian societies are quite happening.

The campus is very well connected with the city.
Tips: Good opportunity to study here as it has Co-Op System. You won't feel that much of the cultural shift I believe. I got a Dean's Fellowship of around 16000 for full course. It was based on my student profile. So far I am very satisfied with whatever I got.
Likes (Public transportation): The campus is very well connected with the city as it is close to Downtown. Drexel Shuttle (Bus) has Three Routes connection to almost every necessary places in the campus. The public transport network is also very easy to use. Lots of cheap options available.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part-time jobs are not available as such. And the ones that are available have so many applicants that the chances of you getting the job are almost negligible. Part-time work is definitely manageable, but for that you should be fortunate enough to get one.

A place of different cultures from around the world.
Tips: The shift that I felt was the change in how you live your life and how you are used to doing certain things, coming from a country like India. The culture is a lot different but only if you indulge in it, you can also be in your own bubble and stay far from anything different, where you surround yourself with people from your own background and nothing much will change in your life. I am pretty satisfied with my university, course and country.
Likes (Student Life): The student life is amazing here in Philadelphia, according to my experience, since there are two huge campuses in such close vicinity, you get to meet interesting people from various backgrounds, cultures, races and religions. The area is beautiful and exciting to live in, as there is always something going on and there is always something to do for everyone, no matter how exclusive your taste is or how different your choices are.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The chance of an international student from India settling permanently in the US is very low these days and it will be lower as we go forward because of the immigration policies, the sheer number of people coming from India and the cap on the visas issue every year.

Tips: Drexel as a university has a mix of academic rigour and a more practical experience which ultimately benefits in the workplace scenario. By studying here, I have learnt the need to stay organised and manage my time well as even a slight misbalance can lead to a lot of stress. There are lots of Indian food options available but it might be costly to eat out most of the days so cooking can be the best alternative. Drexel, a life of hustle that pays off.
Tips: Students must make up their mind to adapt to a hustle life since the quarter system is fast and demanding. Culturally, there were no problems for me personally. Scholarships depend on your academic integrity and accomplishments. You can apply for external scholarships if you have the backing of a professor and meet the requirements for the scholarship/fellowship.
Likes (Student Life): Drexel has decent amenities like a park and a recreational center for sports that students can use to catch up on their personal life. Drexel clubs also organise many activities. It totally depends on how the student will use these amenities. There are clubs for all sorts of things from academic to entertainment to sports.
Dislikes (Part time work): I see a lot of students struggling to get part time jobs either in college or with partner companies on campus. Some students are managing part time jobs like working in a cafe/restaurant or TA/RA without any issues to their academic journey. Average part time pay is around 10-20 dollars per hour but it depends on the company.

Tips: Students before joining this college should need to know about the good place to live and good places to eat.
The college also gives scholarships for the students and conducts some free food donation every week where students can go and grab some food.
There are also some student groups which will focus on student problems and try to sort them out.
Likes (Public transportation): There different sources of transportation here and which can easily take to most of the places which we want and also they are very cheap and reasonable
They will be there 24-7 and easily accessible the payment mode is also easy to understand and there will be guidelines everywhere .
Dislikes (Internships): Internship opportunities are low because for our course we need prior experience and the market right now is bad here. Maybe later in 2026 there might be some easy opportunities to grab into.
And moreover there are plenty of opportunities for civil engineering according to my knowledge here.

Hectic but worth the struggle.
Tips: Quarter system is followed, and for Masters degree you need to complete 45 credits in 2 and a half months. Whereas, other universities graduate students need to complete 30 credit in 5 months, hence it is very hectic and stressful to manage initially.
Likes (Student Life): There are a lot of student networking events, cultural and diversity events where students can participate. There are several clubs and associations where student can take part, and can join in arts, robotics, and musical clubs. There are graduate student associations which can be joined too.
Dislikes (Part time work): It is difficult to get on campus jobs as there are a lot of people who try for it. 15% of students get part time jobs, rest don't get it. 15-18$ is the pay and it is better to apply part-time before joining the course that is when you are in India and to apply as many part-time as possible.

Not easy, but memorable and totally worth it.
Tips: The transition was easy if you know what to expect and what not to. You'll do your own chores, cooking, cleaning, laundry, groceries etc. You'll do your own furniture assembly, moving and all that difficult stuff, just like everyone else here. But what you'll gain is experience, friends and learn how to survive on your own. It's all a part of the process of becoming adjusted to life in the US. Good experiences.
Likes (Public transportation): College includes public transport in the fees. Buses, trains, etc. in Pittsburgh, are already included and the connectivity across the city via buses is very convenient. The buses run till late hours in the night, and CMU provides shuttle and campus escorts late into the night when buses are not available.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Chances of permanent immigration/settlement is low since the H1b / Eb2 route has a lot of people from my country, causing extremely high wait times. You can be optimistic, but if things don't work out, have a backup in mind. The US allows you in for study/work realistically, that's all you should expect to be on a visa. If something works out otherwise, I'd call it an optimistic scenario using other routes, not the ground truth.

All around academic excellence.
Tips: After moving here, I have not experienced any cultural shift, mostly because I think nobody moving after working for a few years and is from a metro city back in India, the lifestyle remains pretty much the same and there are just some more social rules and regulations to keep in mind that probably take a few days to get used to. I was fortunate enough to get 15% scholarship based on my academic excellence and profile. It gets deducted every semester. I am very satisfied with the course and the university. The institution offers excellent academic rigour with outstanding professors and really well designed courses.
Likes (Public transportation): College students have free public transport and this saves a lot of money as a student. There are plenty of options for public buses from the university to travel anywhere you want in the city. The university itself offers shuttle services for students including late night shuttles for those staying back in college post 10 pm.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Chances of me settling in that country are below average because of visa issues and constant changes being introduced for the visa. I value flexibility with respect to travelling and going back to my home in India and because there is so much uncertainty around the visa.

Exceptional faculty and a diverse campus.
Tips: You will get to experience teaching in its various forms and the labs here are incredible. What I like about CMU is that it continuously upgrades itself but if you're looking for a more traditional experience this program might not be ideal. It's quite expensive without a decent scholarship or some form of financial aid, so plan accordingly.

There are very few, limited slots for on-campus part-time opportunities.
Tips: CMU is an academic playground, and you can expect to juggle multiple things simultaneously. Don't get overwhelmed, as the campus is welcoming, and the professors are understanding. You'll have ample opportunities to participate in case studies and experiments if that interests you.
Dislikes (Part time work): Honestly, there are no part-time work opportunities, certainly not off-campus. There are very few, limited slots for on-campus positions as well. You'll have better luck finding a hybrid position elsewhere if you need one, as your schedule may not allow it.

There are some popular food stops near campus for Indians, although they may not be as good as what you get back home. CMU allows experimenting with majors, like if you're doing STEM, you can minor in digital marketing. The matches and games are events that people on campus cherish. You should keep an open mind, and you'll have a good time.

Tips: My programme is very detailed and involves a lot of tech, business and strategy, as well as forcing you to think beyond your expectations. CMU was one of my dream schools, and after coming here, I realised why. Great mentorship in the form of professors and truly helpful students. Take a week before classes and sort out all your paperwork, orientation and banking.

Tips: The classes are project-based learning and heavy case studies. Classes often revolve around discussions and debates. Along with this, you'll have to learn how to present your thoughts and ideas, especially as these are graded and contribute to the overall GPA.
Dislikes (Part time work): Well, on-campus part-time positions are limited and they fill up pretty fast, especially in the library and with professors. It is highly competitive, and we are not allowed to work part time off campus as well.

Ideal place to thrive.
Tips: I have seen myself transition a lot after I started studying here. My experience has been somewhat positive although it's been a real challenge trying to keep up with my classes and managing my energy here. Work experience is significantly valued here while applying for admissions, and I have been shortlisted for a few roles as well thanks to CMU. There are also plenty of housing options and accommodations to choose from.
