Masters in Physics - Batch of 2027
4.5
An invigorating experience.
Tips: Physics at Heidelberg is prestigious but demands total academic independence. That is, there is no spoon-feeding, and one must manage their own exam schedules along with their classes. Advice would be to start your housing search months before you arrive here, as the market is tough. Also, learn basic German before arriving. The Sunday shutdown was a massive shift from India's hustle. I also had to adapt to German directness, which is efficient rather than rude.
Likes (Part time work): On-campus HiWi are easy to get by, especially in the experiential sector. It isn't easy to manage studies along with HiWi, but it also largely depends on the major that a student is planning to take. The average payout may depend on the task as well as the funding of that particular group, which might be between 300-600 euros. There are also mini-jobs available for students, which are also a good option to consider.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian restaurants are hard to find and also super expensive. I usually cook at home because all the necessary ingredients are easily available at the supermarket or Indian stores. Although there are places around that host Indian buffets for affordable prices, and also, there are also communities that engage in making Indian food.

MSc in Scientific Computing - Batch of 2026
4.5
Challenging course with a good learning environment.
Tips: The coursework can be intensive and might require effort to perform well. I was also offered a scholarship by the university to which I had applied. As for Germany, I am still getting used to the culture and language.
Likes (Internships): As the university has a good reputation, it is possible to get a good internship. The university also offers internships to work inside some of the labs of the university. These internships will be dependent on the field of your study and you will be selected on the basis of your expertise.
Dislikes (Student Life): The course offered requires a good amount of self study. There are 2 lectures/course per week and 1 exercise/lec for each course, a student will have 15 hours of lecture/exercise/week and on top of that they have to study on their own to get the best grades. What I enjoyed the most about the college life is what the campus offers. Great library, communal space, variety of food. There are also a lot of clubs on campus to fulfil your interests.

A beautiful adventure awaits.
Tips: Germany is a beautiful country, to begin with, and Heidelberg is the cherry on the top. There aren't many cultural socks I faced while coming from India except that people here are strict regarding the laws and the rules. There are many unsaid rules such as you have to let people offboard before you onboard, you are supposed to carry your ID cards wherever you are travelling etc. I am very satisfied with the course and the country I am in and would ask everyone to definitely check it out as one of your options.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The quality of faculty is top notch especially in Europe, with scientists around the world and professors highly educated and qualified, it is one of the best universities to study in. The teaching methods are similar to what is followed in other European universities but the quality every professor has is phenomenal.
Dislikes (Value for money): For every university in Baden Wurttemberg, an international student from a non-EEA country has to pay a 1500 Euros semester contribution including Indians. This fee is different from the semester fee of 151 Euros and I feel that this is a bit expensive considering the other universities in other states. Also, you have to buy a 27 Euros monthly pass as you do not get a Deutschland ticket at this university.

Heidelberg: An enchanting student city
Tips: Joining the University of Heidelberg was one of the best decisions I took in my life. It's the biggest hub of astronomy in the whole of Germany, with more than 400 researchers working in various fields of astronomy. The university provides a lot of majors to specialize in, which makes it very diverse. One of the university's most attractive features is its very flexible system when it comes to taking courses. The university doesn't impart a fixed curriculum to students; instead, the choice of courses is left to students' discretion. The professors are active researchers who impart lectures while keeping a research mentality in mind. They also respect international students and often advise students to make the most out of university life. They are very approachable, and students can do research assistantships in their group for credit or money. Students can also do various part-time jobs easily without risking their education and can earn a good living. Germany's infrastructure is brilliant which actively supports a fit and healthy lifestyle. Though there is a bit of a housing crisis in Heidelberg, good planning in advance can help deal with this issue. The university also hosts multiple student canteens and a big central library, which are open till 1 a.m. The campus provides multiple sports facilities and classes, including skiing and word-fighting. The city also hosts multiple advanced research institutes like Max Planck Institutes and EMBL, allowing students to get research experience through internships. Heidelberg itself is a small, beautiful student city with a river flowing through the city and multiple scenic trekking routes all around the city. Heidelberg is only a few minutes away from Mannheim, providing brilliant connectivity to the rest of Germany and to the majority of the neighbouring countries. This also allows us to explore the rest of Europe during our semester break.
Likes (Safety): Heidelberg is one of the safest student cities in Germany. It has considerably fewer shady places compared to other big cities, and public transport is nice, ensuring safe passage throughout the city. There is a police station at all the major points in the city, and police patrols are regular. Apart from the facilities, the inhabitants of the city are very responsible and caring. I have personally never witnessed a bad situation or crime in my 2 years of living here, and I have also walked freely in the city, even at 2 a.m.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Heidelberg hosts a variety of Indian restaurants ranging from North Indian to South Indian food, which cost 20 euros per person for a good dinner. I prefer cooking myself as I can get all the ingredients very easily, including all the masalas, from the Indian stores and it's cost-effective.

Good faculty and provide best internships.
Tips: I've got to know this college from a close friend of mine. Initially I found a few difficulties in culture, language, etc, but soon I got habituated to it. I availed a scholarship, I'm completely satisfied with this university and my favourite course and the country is awesome.
Likes (Indian Food): All restaurants are good, but I've tried only about five near the university. The prices are above average and some foods are overpriced. It's okay and worth it if the food is good. I mostly cook with my friend in my room, and we occasionally go out for dinner.
Dislikes (Internships): Professors and seniors guidance was helpful in finding internships relevant to my field of study. Because they are relevant, I developed an interest and performed my internship well, the chances of getting a job at the company are high.

MA International Law - Batch of 2023

Great university with modern facilities and big campus.
Tips: I learned a lot, made some great friends, and gained some valuable life experience. And the campus was beautiful too. The university is a public research university in the city of Heidelberg in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. There are a lot of cultural shifts, so it is up to you how well you adjust and retain your values while you adjust so that you don’t feel lost. You can obviously search for your type of people and will surely find them, but it just takes a little effort. I would definitely recommend Heidelberg University to any student looking for a high-quality education.
Likes (Student Life): My peer group was fabulous and there were so many opportunities, just looking for the right one that suits you the most. It was just what I was looking for. I am amazed that not many people know about it, but you can apply for a lot of scholarships there too.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Public transportation may take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it you will find it to be quite nice. It is affordable too, but use your money wisely, and it may be a good idea to pick someone you trust to be your guardian.

MSc in Quantitative Data Science Methods Psychometrics, Econometrics and Machine Learning - Batch of 2026
Offered by University of Tuebingen
4.4
The courses are theoretically rigorous and demand a lot of work from students.
Tips: This course gave me an opportunity to shift my career in Data Science/ML having come from an Economics background. Since my university is a TU, the courses are theoretically rigorous and demand a lot of work from students. I was able to complete an internship and continue working part-time and establish my career, thanks to the worklife balance here. I would recommend people come to Germany for Masters, to get this sort of experience and exposure. I haven't applied for scholarships.
Likes (Safety): I generally feel safe in Baden Wuerttemberg as a woman. Of course there are edge cases, but overall it's really safe. Our personal space gets respected and people usually mind their own business while travelling, etc. It is relatively safe to travel from point A to B late at night too.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The job market is not doing well, even in early 2026. Even in promising fields like AI/ML, you have better chances of getting hired if you can speak very good German B2 minimum and/or if you have prior work experience. Getting Werkstudent/Hiwi part-time positions is easier. Companies sponsoring work visa is usually done if the offer is converted, which isn't a big barrier. For tech roles, blue card salaries are very much possible.

Great academics and support.
Tips: Your outlook towards life is about to get transformed. Tuebingen will give you reasons to excel academically and develop physically and emotionally. I loved my time there. It gave me access to working with renowned scientists, prestigious institutions, and made lifelong friendships.
Likes (Internships): I was always employed when I studied there and it was easy to find jobs for me. Everyone I knew was employed most of the time. I don't think that if you work slightly hard, you'll face any difficulty in finding jobs. There's max planck institute that's easy to access and work with and other prestigious institutions where you can find amazing work easily.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Tuebingen isn't the place that offers placement or anything like that. You need to look for a job yourself which is difficult for an immigrant. But having said that, everyone I know has found a job. And no one has any complaint about the university life or the jobs aspects.

Master of Science Astro and Particle Physics - Batch of 2025
Offered by University of Tuebingen
4.2
Public transport in most German cities is really good, with some delays or cancellations on trains.
Tips: Uni Tübingen is one of the best universities in Germany. The course on Astro and Particle Physics is really unique giving a unique blend of both Astrophysics and Particle Physics. The Astronomy and astrophysics institute hosts one Radio telescope and another 80 cm optical telescope for outreach and training purposes. Though most German Universities don't have Tution fees, in the state of Baden Württemberg all universities charge a small tuition fee of 1500 per semester. The study is quite difficult and different from the Indian system, so the majority of the students need 1 year extra year to finish their degrees. But there are international student help forums that can help people in need. Apart from that the city is quite fun with a lot of diversity providing students to wider view of the world.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Most students go for PhD positions in Astrophysics or Particle Physics. But people can also get jobs in Data Science, Museum Educator, Planetarium, or AI/ML depending on the skills people have. Learning German would be beneficial to work for companies bht for PhD positions it's not needed.

A supportive and wholesome experience.
Tips: Students should know that Bingen is academically strong but demanding, and housing can be competitive. I adjusted well, though the cultural shift towards independence and punctuality was noticeable. I availed the Deutschland Stipendium, which provides a 300 allowance for 6 months to the awarded students. Applications are open to everyone at the beginning of each year. I am very satisfied with the university, my course, and living in Germany.
Likes (Part time work): Part-time work is easy to find. On-campus jobs such as HiWi, library or research assistant are common, and off-campus roles in cafes, retail and tutoring are also available easily to help students support themselves financially during their lecture-free period. Part-time work is manageable with planning. The average pay is around 12- 15/hour.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking for myself since eating out is expensive. Bingen has a few Indian restaurants but the options are not as diverse or as flavour-rich as what I'm used to in India. Many dishes are adjusted to suit local taste. Eating Indian food in restaurants here is relatively expensive, and the taste sometimes doesn't justify the price. You get basic Indian groceries in stores like AsiaShop or a supermarket but not everything is easily available.

Academically challenging but rewarding experience.
Tips: Depending on the programme, the classes are filled with international students, especially for courses that are in English. It's not very difficult to adjust if you're fluent in English. Knowing some German does help a lot in normal day to day activities like buying groceries or ordering at a restaurant.
Likes (Public transportation): The whole city including campus, student dorms, restaurants etc., is well connected by buses. The buses are frequent and usually on time, with delays noted on the Naldo/DB navigator app. Very convenient public transport. The use of public transportation comes under D ticket, so there's no need to spend more for it.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Tuebingen is more of a student town not a big city with over 28000 students out of about 90000 total residents, which is quite significant. Permanent settlement would require more opportunities, which would be easier in big cities like Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, etc.

Great for higher education at low cost and friendly for students from other country.
Tips: Know about how the University of taubingen works and allow student and the fee structure is so smilpe only semester fee you need to pay. Students should be aware of the course they are applying and remaining miscellaneous should be controlled by students. University of tubingen is best for students of middle class.
Likes (Value for money): University of tubingen provides free education and I only paid for semester fee as tuition fee was free and as they allowed me for part time job in University canteen, I got stipend for internship while I was studying. Comparatively germany is providing best quality free education.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Being a south indian I felt pretty unsatisfied to find my native food, though after traveling for three hours to reach south Indian resto near my university, I felt same vibes of south India but daily we can't travel 3 hours for south Indian food right.
