History
Its opening in 1477, saw the establishment of four of its major faculties, including Law, Theology, Medicine, and Philosophy. In 1863, the first Science faculty was established at a German University. In 1876, the enrollments topped 1,000 for the first time. Then, in 1904, this university admitted its first female students. In 1977, this university celebrated its 500th anniversary. The University of Tubingen was once more selected as one of Germany’s Universities of Excellence. In 2022, for the first time in its history, this university was headed by a woman, Professor Karla Pollmann.
