A Balanced Experience of Learning, Diversity, and Development
Tips: If you're heading to Hochschule Bremen, you seriously need to brace yourself for how fast things move. HSB is a university of applied sciences, so it’s not just about memorizing theory—it’s heavily packed with hands-on group projects, lab work, and tight deadlines. You have to be incredibly organized and ready to teach yourself a lot of the material on the fly, because the expectations here are a world away from high school. It definitely pays to dive into your specific module handbooks and get a feel for the Neustadt campus layout before your first day.
My own transition was a massive mix of excitement and total panic. At first, the cultural shift hit me hard—especially trying to figure out the direct German communication style, managing my own life completely independently, and dealing with the academic pressure. Honestly, I only adapted by forcing myself out of my comfort zone, hanging out at Café International to meet people, and building a strict daily routine that kept me from drowning in the coursework.

Pretty much it's a ticket to EU
Tips: They should be aware that language has a key role to play if you are coming to Germany; that's very important. How they teach you here is different; most of you will be so involved that mostly you will learn about any topic yourself, and faculty will be there to guide you.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Well-experienced faculty will guide you, and most importantly, they are accessible to each one. They don't spoon-feed everything, and you have to find your own way to finish the project or assignment. No doubt your professor will always be there to help you. Research about everything is a key aspect of doing any assignment here.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Well, you won't find a street as common as in India; I prefer cooking myself, as it saves money and you can cook your beloved food. There are not so many good restaurants; Indian food outside is also quite expensive, and you will end up spending a lot outside. It is always better to cook at home.

Tips: Learning the German language is better for finding a job. Scholarships are rare. It’s hard to find. I am really satisfied with the classes. A perfect foot hold to enter Germany and begin your journey in the EU culture.
Tips: I chose to be part of the culture of Germany/EU, and of course, there is a cultural shift from polychronic to a monochronic culture. This is a good thing. Embrace, learn and enjoy this culture and it will help you, in turn, appreciate your home culture as well.
There are a few scholarships available from DAAD, a loan, also a 500 Euro recommendation gift for joining the college.
The university is located in Bremen, which is a relatively small town and much cheaper than the big cities. Jobs have to be applied online so starting from Bremen was the best. The university and course were decent. Nothing exceptional but a good basic MBA. Language is the only barrier to setting up in Germany.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Teaching and faculty are good. That was the best part of college. The teaching was less theoretical and mostly practical. There were group assignments and presentations. You as a student, won't feel any discrimination or biases of any kind.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The university itself does not help arrange any interviews, meet-ups, or company placements. You need German language fluency if you want to apply for jobs and internships. (only IT jobs available in English). You do not need a sponsor visa via this route of doing studies and then working. You just need to find a job in your field. Salary packages are capped by the government. Minimum after an MBA is 45,000/annum Euro. Usually, 55,000 - 80,000 is offered, besides perks. Language is the only barrier.

Tips: There were lots of things to adjust. It took time but it was good. Received also scholarship. Keeping up without funding and learning German is hard. A grand German adventure in a quaint student town.
Tips: The culture shock that you will get is only initially. But once you find friends, it’s very easy going and you will love the quaint town of Bremen. You might find loads of part time opportunities. Scholarships are difficult but you can definitely apply for them. I was very satisfied because I got great faculty, amazing friends and an internationally recognised degree. So all the best.
Likes (Post study jobs): You will get all the help from the faculty, the alumni and the students who are already working as Werkstudent (student work). Sponsored visas, well, not so many nowadays as there is a language barrier for full time jobs. Starting packages can vary based on your experience and job role. But on average, it’s between 40,000 - 50,000 euros for maybe developers. It can go even higher if you get selected in R&D.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian food in restaurants are quite expensive. It will be better to buy stuff or ingredients from Indian stores and cook for yourself. It will be cheaper and taste better.

Best public university for students.
Tips: Well trained faculty plus less fees compared to other universities. The university has organised all events and supported getting internships. The campus is good and well maintained. The culture and atmosphere were really nice.
Likes (Part time work): Good campus and safe for students. Culture and atmosphere are good for students who want to study and meet new people. Life was really good for students to create events or other social and cultural activities. All other facilities are available to read and study and get information.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Well trained and practical oriented staff available. We got all the materials to read and learn. We got assignments or notes to solve and study about subject. We got individual support for exams and gave every other support to graduate and get a good job.

Don't just come as a student but come with the mindset of building a better lifestyle.
Tips: Apply for student accommodation at least 6 months to 1 year before. Do city registration, pay bills on time. Start learning a language from India, even though the courses are in English but anyway, you have to learn a language for jobs so be ready to explore once you arrive. Don't just sit in your room. Explore the city, meet people. Expect to do a lot of things by yourself like applying for jobs when arriving here in the first month, dont wait to finish your classes and then apply. Scholarship is based on an early bird discount. University is good and very international. Later scholarship for your expenses is also available in Bremen when you do your thesis, which is around 300 per month.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Chances of permanent settlement are good if you have a good job in this country and the process is easy, though a bit lengthy, only if you don't have proper documentation, like a German language Certificate. I would settle permanently here. Most people think they get exactly what they have in India. You have to do everything by yourself. Accept people will be straightforward, not because they are rude but because they dont know how to butter. Bureaucracy is slow but PR is easy if you accept this reality as well. This is not limited to documentation.
Dislikes (Value for money): The MBA programme is highly practical with a strong focus on case studies, field trips, and presentations. However, the tuition fee is relatively high compared to the actual value delivered. As each modules complete in one or 2 weeks. Lots of work you need to do by yourself. Research, assignment. Professors are helpful but some take time to reply. But this university is still better in terms of money than other private universities. First of all this is a public institution affiliated with Hochschule Bremen. So with tuition fees, you can see a lot of things are also there in the city with students.

Bremen is a small city, well connected and extremely punctual.
Tips: This acts as a good gateway to your career in Europe because it's a public university, but if you really need quality studies, maybe this might not be the first option. But as per the tuition fee and cost of living, it is really worth it, because other universities charge way more than this. The professors are helping, but the only thing is that you need to talk and be kind of pushy to be helpful with the opportunities outside. The university also gives a mandatory certificate, which makes it a bit easier to get internships, as the tax for the compulsory internships is very minimal and even the hours do not count.
Likes (Public transportation): Bremen is a small city, well connected and extremely punctual. The frequency of the buses and trams is also better than in other cities I have lived in.
Many times I had to go home late from the city Centre and there was at least a bus every one hour.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): It took me a while to understand the job market. Even though I did not get direct help from the University, talking to a lot of seniors and pass-outs helped me and made me realise that knowing many people is really important here. There is no such thing as placements.
There is, of course, a career guide department that helps you work on the CV, attend interviews in a different cultural communication style.
I really think if you network efficiently, there is scope; if you do not put those efforts, it is a bit complicated to get the desired job.

Practical exposure and nice learning environment.
Tips: It's very important to be dynamic and adjust if you are moving to another country. Do respect the culture and people of you want to learn and network. I have availed a DAAD scholarship which of 1000 euros, as I was very active in college and associated with NGOs helping international students.
Likes (Public transportation): There are trams everywhere and it is well connected to different parts of the city. Also, there is an option of travelling by buses and trains. The good part is that with a semester ticket, provided by the university, all these public transport and even the local library are accessible and free.
Dislikes (Student Life): Bremen is a small city and there are less option for socialising. So, for better vibes, nearby cities like Hamburg are better. I used to travel a lot to different cities. During college days, I used to visit cultural functions organised by different countries on a weekly basis. I also joined a local event group for language improvement.

Tips: Be ready for a massive cultural shift and for a super busy schedule. You would have to do your research and keep yourself updated with everything as nothing will be given to you. In the end your ROI depends on how much hard work and smart-work your are able to pull off. College offers brilliant infra and ecosystem. You just have to ensure that you make the best use of all the facilities and options.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Super approachable and always responds over email and for a quick chat post class. Teaching methods are quite modern, interactive and based on a practical approach. We had over 20+ nationalities in our class, making each and every discussion broader and more diverse.
Dislikes (Internships): There is no guidance as such. There are general seminars but you have to pick what best works for you and use your own research and then implement as per your requirements. Availability depends on which location you are looking at. Bremen has limited options but Hamburg and other major cities offer quite a lot of options.

A peaceful and cozy life in Germany.
Tips: Students should be ready to go to classes, manage to find a part-time job, study the German language, and search for internships before they complete the course. I have extended my subject so that I can manage my language learning skills, part-time work, and the course. At least two semesters of the course will cover the fundamentals of German. During this time, you can start preparing for finding an internship.
Likes (Public transportation): Transportation is usually on time in Bremen because it’s a well-organised city. There are also plenty of buses and trams, so you can usually get to your destination within ten minutes. In addition, there’s a transportation service every 30 minutes in the early morning and late at night.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I don't think there are many big companies near Bremen or in Bremen. Usually, in the south of Germany, we have many big MNCs or industries compared to the north. If I wanted a good job, then I think I would move to another city in the south for better opportunities.

A short & sweet experience
Tips: This university has mostly Indian students which is good and bad at the same time! But overall, the course is very short and sweet. So you'll never know by the time it ends. The program is mostly practical rather than theoretical, so it's fun to learn. Get clarity on your specialization in the very beginning, because there's always some ambiguity with it.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transport and connectivity is one of the best in Germany. There is a tram station right in front of the campus. The campus is centrally located and takes only 10 mins from the Hauptbahnhof. If you're a party geek, then know that the trams run all night!
Dislikes (Post study jobs): The university promotes and informs about job fairs, but getting an opportunity for full time jobs without German language is not easy! They organise company visits but in the end, it all comes down to the language. It's not hard to get a job in Germany, but quite hard in Bremen.

Tips: Learning a language is important. A student can experience cultural shock at the start. In Germany, there is no on campus recruitments like other countries. So the student has to proactively figure out things about internships, part time work, after study jobs, etc. Without language, part time jobs/internships are very difficult to get.
Likes (Public transportation): Student ticket included in fees; valid for the city region. With a student ticket one can use any mode of transportation free of cost for almost the entire region. Well-connected, safe network around the clock. Student concession for transportation.

Life in Paderborn - Boon or Bane?
Tips: Look, if your ultimate goal is to skip out on theory and instantly land a cushy corporate job in the tech industry, the University of Paderborn is probably going to disappoint you. This place is an absolute research powerhouse. If you are trying to set yourself up for a PhD or dive deep into advanced Computer Science academia, it is easily one of the top institutions in Germany. But for a straightforward corporate route, it’s a tough match.
The city of Paderborn itself is small, scenic, and cozy, but you need to know that English will only get you so far here. The local community speaks very little English, so coming here without learning German beforehand is basically setting yourself up for a massive communication barrier. Knowing the language is also your only real ticket to building a solid social circle on campus, which can be tough since the vibe isn't the best fit if you're socially anxious. The academic side is nothing short of brutal. The course structures are incredibly tough, the workload is heavy and passing your exams is never going to be a walk in the park. If you think you can just breeze through with minimum effort to clear your papers, you're in for a rough time. Your grades and performance directly dictate whether you get a look-in for a research assistant position, a decent master's thesis topic, or a solid academic role later. It is a grueling, uphill climb on a very hilly campus—but if you have a strong head on your shoulders and actually want a heavy intellectual challenge, completing a master's degree here feels incredibly rewarding.

Tips: Connect with people who are coming along with you. Get your doubts cleared with senior students. Understand the course structure and plan things in advance. I am satisfied with my university and the course. I got to do technical part-time jobs, and that was the best part.
Likes (Student Life): The student communities are good. Lots of events take place regularly. Students enjoy themselves a lot and build connections. I was part of the Indian community; it was fun. We organize a Diwali event and intercultural events every year. Also, other gatherings. One of the best Indian communities in Germany.
Dislikes (Internships): The course does not have a mandatory internship option. Getting voluntary internships is a bit difficult in comparison. Although there are opportunities for technical part-time jobs. Planning things in advance usually helps a lot. I would recommend a part-time job instead of an internship.

A Great University for Learning, Research, and Career Growth
Tips: If you're coming to Paderborn for Computer Science, you need to lose the expectation that professors are going to hold your hand. The independent learning curve here hits you like a truck, and if you aren't self-motivated to grind through the heavy theory and coding assignments on your own, you’ll fall behind fast. Also, don't buy into the myth that you can totally get away with just English. Sure, the CS modules are taught in English, but trying to navigate the local supermarket, deal with the Ausländerbehörde (foreigners office), or land a decent part-time gig without basic German is a massive headache.
Financially, scholarships are incredibly rare, so don't count on them. I had to pay for literally everything myself by working HiWi gigs on campus and scraping together random part-time jobs. Start hunting for open slots the day you arrive, because every single tech student in Paderborn is fighting for the exact same roles. Living here is a major cultural adjustment—the German obsession with planning everything weeks in advance and their strict respect for personal space can feel pretty cold at first. But looking back, I’m totally satisfied with the move. The CS department has serious research backing and deep ties to local tech firms, so if you actually use the labs and network, it’s a solid launchpad for a tech career.
Likes (Safety): I gave safety a 4 because Paderborn is honestly just a super quiet, low-crime town. Since it’s on the smaller side, it doesn’t have that overwhelming, chaotic vibe of a massive city. You can walk back to your apartment from campus at midnight without feeling sketchy at all, and you barely see any trouble. The local cops are actually pretty efficient and show up fast if there’s a problem. Honestly, I haven't run into a single sketchy situation the entire time I've lived here.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Since Paderborn is a pretty small student town, it completely lacks the massive, cheap food scene you get in bigger student hubs like Aachen or Göttingen. That's exactly why I gave the Indian food options a low 2-star rating. Honestly, if you want a decent taste of home, a basic meal at the few Indian spots in town will easily run you 16 to 20 euros a head, which completely destroys a student budget. Because of that, I just cook at home most days and grab my spices from the small local Asian/Indian grocery shops. When I am too lazy to cook and don't want to eat at the campus Mensa, my only cheap options are the endless Döner and falafel pocket joints or quick pizza slices scattered around the center.

It is one of the top research based university in Germany for the computer science branch.
Tips: The university is research-oriented. Since there are many students coming to apply for accommodation, you will get an acceptance letter. Apply for a working student job under your faculty. The chances of getting it are high. Try to apply for a thesis as soon as you meet the requirements under the faculty where you did your project, seminar, and more than 3 subjects.
Likes (Safety): It's been 3 years in Paderborn, and I haven't experienced any danger. I can go out alone at 3 am without any worries. It's especially safe for girls. The police are very responsive if there are any issues. I live near the university, so I felt safe.
Dislikes (Internships): We don't have a compulsory internship at our university. If we apply, it will be our volunteer work. If you are willing to do an internship, go ahead, but while applying to a company, ask whether it's compulsory or not. If not, the chances of getting in are lower. So I rated it as 2. Instead, join as a work-student, which is similar to gaining experience.

Tips: Yes, there was a cultural shift for sure, but I would say the transition was rather smooth. There is a large Indian community here who are all very helpful, and they made my early days quite easy. No, I didn't get any scholarship. I would say I am very satisfied with my choices for my university, course, and country. One thing that I would suggest to others looking to come to Germany is to try and invest more time learning the German language, as that's what helps you immensely in your day-to-day life, and I would say it has a heavy impact when it comes to looking for full-time job roles, as they do filter out candidates based on their German language proficiency.
Likes (Indian Food): There are 2-3 Indian restaurants in the city; also, there's a store called SNS that sells Indian spices and other food items, so one has access to everything needed to be able to cook the same meals that they did back home. I prefer cooking myself.
Dislikes (Internships): I knocked the rating down because Paderborn doesn’t really have big MNCs or tech companies partnering directly with the uni to hand out internships. You're basically left on your own to hunt for roles, send out cold applications, and handle the whole job search yourself. Tips: Moving here was a smooth transition, though one should definitely learn the German language beforehand to communicate easily with local people daily. Likes (Value for money): Because it is a public university, it is completely tuition-free for international students. There is only a minor semester contribution fee required, which is incredibly valuable since it fully covers the cost of public transportation across the entire region in Germany. This makes the overall return on investment exceptional for anyone studying on a student budget.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Most restaurants serve very limited Indian food options, and the authentic taste is often missing. Because of this, I usually prefer to cook my own meals at home. Eating out frequently is also quite expensive and not sustainable for a student budget on a daily basis.

Tips: It is difficult to adjust in the first semester. The courses are very practical and not theory-based like in India. The university has limited options for student jobs as researchers. The course is tough. In computer engineering there are 4 mandatory courses. 2 of them are quite tough. The university and infrastructure are decent.
Likes (Public transportation): Paderborn city is small and well-connected by public transportation. The university is quite centrally located. The ticket is included in the semester contribution. The Deutschland ticket can be used to travel anywhere in Germany for local buses and trains.
Dislikes (Internships): It is difficult to apply for internships in the companies near the university since internships are not mandatory. The companies prefer students who need mandatory internships for completion of their course. Not many companies are located in Paderborn. You will have to travel to bigger cities for student jobs and internships.

Tips: Just a heads up, the local food and how insanely strict the rules are out here will probably give you a massive culture shock at first. It's definitely a weird adjustment, but you honestly get used to the whole vibe faster than you think. It takes a little time to get used to, but honestly, it’s not that bad because there are a ton of Indian restaurants and grocery shops right around the corner from campus. Having those nearby makes it super easy to grab a familiar meal or track down home ingredients whenever you start feeling homesick, which completely saves you during your first few months. Also, the main difference is how we behave in a public space, like speaking friendly or loudly might be normal, but here you should respect other people's personal space. 2. I did not avail myself of any scholarship. 3. The university is awesome; my course was completely English-taught, so I did not face any difficulties, and the teaching staff is supportive.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): The city is quite small and friendly, so in case you want to settle permanently, the rent is cheaper than compared to other big cities. Also, the commute to other parts is really good. There is no hassle with the immigration office or the appointments.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Generally, you don't need a company to provide you any kind of sponsor document; you can get the work visa or the blue card based on your job contact. The main jobs are all IT or computer science-related. Companies offer around 40K-55K Euro based on your position and experience.

Vigorous curriculum and great student life.
Tips: The university itself is really good in terms of studies, but it is the job scenario that anyone should be careful of. Any courses that are being offered are really great compared to India, where you might not get this much detailed studies and won't learn what you can learn here.
Likes (Safety): Paderborn city itself is one of the safest cities compared to other metropolitan cities such as Berlin, Frankfurt or Munich. I personally never heard about anyone getting discriminated against or being harassed in here. These things are not that common here.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I saw my friends completing their master's and still not getting jobs for 1 or even 2 years. I mean, eventually you will get a job, but be prepared to do some odd jobs even after studying, as it is not guaranteed that you will get a job when you just finish.

Tips: Be prepared for a minimum of 3 years. There are no scholarships available. I felt stressed and spent almost 4 years here, completing my Master's and earning 55,000 euros annually. My friends who spent 4 years working in India, gained experience and then came directly for work, are earning 70,000 euros. I am not satisfied with the university.
Likes (Safety): Apartments are cheap and good, with good facilities and friendly surroundings, all within walking distance of the university. I had very positive experiences with the campus and apartments, as they were clean and cozy, and the city is beautiful.
Dislikes (Student Life): The course structure is demanding. There are many assignments and the subjects are challenging. Students need to dedicate a lot of time to studying, completing one subject per semester over four years. I wouldn't recommend this university if you're looking to enjoy and travel. While you can make friends and participate in events completing a Master's degree might be difficult.

The course is relevant and practical the university has good resources and the country offers good job prospects after graduation.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are good job opportunities after graduation especially in tech and engineering but the process can be slow and language skills sometimes matter. Many medium and large companies in Germany offer visa sponsorship especially in the IT automotive and finance sectors but not all small companies do. Typical roles include Software Developer, Data Analyst, Electrical Engineer and Business Analyst. Starting salaries typically range from 45,000 to 60,000 euros per year depending on position and experience.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are very limited options for food from my home country. Even when available, the taste is not authentic, and the quality is inconsistent. There are mostly German, Italian and Turkish restaurants nearby. Prices vary: Budget options, such as Doner and Pizza, cost around 5-10 euros, mid-range options, such as Pasta, Schnitzel, are 10-20 euros, and higher-end places are 25 euros and above. I prefer cooking at home. It's more affordable, and I can prepare food that tastes closer to what I'm used to.

Interesting learning experience, but not easy.
Tips: The courses are not extremely difficult, but it's also not possible to pass without putting in any effort. You have to work pretty hard to get very good grades. A major positive change is that I am no longer afraid of speaking up and asking questions during lectures. The professors were very encouraging and receptive to even the most minor doubts. Most of the internship opportunities I've found are from the career fair on campus, rather than the student jobs portal. The career fair is hosted once or twice a year on campus. Also, I've had some luck finding internships on LinkedIn. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my experiences.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Most of the professors I’ve interacted with are very approachable and passionate about the subjects they teach. I found almost all of the courses I attended to be very interesting. However, the professors also have high expectations, so be sure to attend the first few lectures to see if the course is the right fit for you.

Tips: It is known for its computer science course and they want credible students. You need to put in the effort for the experience to be fruitful. It's not at all like the indian system, so you will need to adjust to the German education system. Be prepared for that.
