The Philipps University of Marburg is a traditional German university which is believed to be one of the world's oldest universities. Founded as a Protestant institution in 1527, this university is a public university of the state of Hesse. This university comprises of 16 different departments specializing in different disciplines. These departments are Law, Business and Economics, Social Sciences and Philosophy, Psychology, Protestant Theology, History and Cultural Studies, History and Cultural Education, German Arts and Studies, Foreign Languages and Cultures(German), Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Pharmacy(German), Biology, Geography, Medicine(German) and Education.
Further, Philipps University of Marburg is popular for its research specialization in the field of life sciences. It is situated in Marburg, Hesse, Germany. This university has two major locations in Marburg which are Lahntal and Lahnberge. This university has over 120 buildings at 14 different locations. Moreover, it has two botanical gardens, namely Alter Botanischer Garten Marburg and Botanischer Garten Marburg.
This university has a center called CNMS (center for near and Middle Eastern studies) which conducts Middle East research. This university has 12 Leibniz Prize winners.
