Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics - Batch of 2023
2.5
A good tier-2 college, where self-study is a must.
Tips: I did get a scholarship of 3000 EURO once the application was filed, based on my profile, the university will provide the scholarship. With regard to teaching/ studying, it's more self-study that has to be done. Satisfied with the country, and especially County Cork- a very peaceful and easygoing place with humble people around.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is good, and the frequency of buses from college to the city is good. It can still improve! Easily available modes of public transportation include buses, and there is a bus stop right on campus, which makes commuting very, very easy.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): We get a Stamp 1G visa, which is a work visa valid for 2 years. Within these 2 years, we should bag a job that will sponsor the Stamp 1 Visa. The majority of companies aren't aware that Stamp 1G gives the ability to work full-time 40 hours for the company, and they aren't ready to sponsor the Stamp 1 visa. Because of this, obtaining a visa to settle is very difficult.

Excellent student experience and totally worth the investment
Tips: For me, there was not much transition, as there were many Indians in my class/course and very few non-Indians. Yes, I availed myself of a scholarship from the university itself, which reduced my tuition fees. I am very satisfied with the course, as it aims for more hands-on learning, and the university is really good compared to other universities here in Ireland. Also, in general I really like it here, and especially Cork, where I am staying, as people are very friendly, polite, and welcoming. Never had any issues so far!
Likes (Part time work): There are lots of part-time opportunities available off-campus, and for this cybersecurity course, it's easily manageable along with the academics and even for any other course except for anyone choosing the AI course. Usually, it keeps increasing every year, and this year (2026) it's anywhere from 14 to 18 euros per hour.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Well, it depends on the domain, and for cybersecurity there are a good number of companies that offer sponsored visas for work. Again, it depends on whether they've had prior work experience in this domain. For any other domains it's comparatively less, is what I have seen, but I'd say generally anyone with good years of experience in those domains, say 4+ years, has better job roles and salary packages offered in general.

The quiet yet wonderful life on the sea
Tips: The initial few months are hard: the language shift, the academics, we are not really used to studying in this manner. I unfortunate did not avail any scholarships. However, one tip I would give is to learn the German language to at least B2. The courses are excellent, very up to date, they will speak to your interests, and you have a lot of flexibility in the specializations you can potentially do.
Likes (Public transportation): It is the best. The place is interconnected, and everything is always walkable. The city is small but very touristy, a lot of people visit in summer. So the city is beautiful as well. You get transportation from the university as soon as you are enrolled in one.
Dislikes (Internships): In Northern Germany, there is an overall lack of internships. You need a lot of networking skills as well as a command of the language in Order to stand a chance at even being eligible for internships. Relevant internships generally are available, but as I said difficult to find.

Your life at University of Rostock
Tips: Even if your course is in English, learn German. Try to become more social and become more acquainted with the culture. Keep your life academically and socially balanced. If you are able to score well in the first 1-2 semesters, apply for the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship, which will pay you 300 euros every month. I am quite satisfied with the course, as there are many electives to choose from to develop your skills holistically.
Likes (Public transportation): You get the Deutschlandticket as part of your semester ticket, so all local and regional transportation is free for you throughout Germany. In Rostock, we have trains, trams, buses, as well as ferries, which operate throughout the city as well as nearby towns.
Dislikes (Internships): As the city of Rostock is not located near big cities, to find internships you need to move or relocate to different locations where the companies are, which is not feasible before you have completed 2-3 semesters. There are many good, relevant internships available, but you need to apply for that in whole of Germany.

A great opportunity to study in Germany.
Tips: I did not receive any scholarship. I am very satisfied with my university and course. The faculty is very approachable and talented. Many interesting courses are offered to students. I did not stay in a student dormitory. That's why I had to pay more rent for a home in the city.
Likes (Public transportation): All the campuses are very well connected to different sections of the city. People can use trams, buses and S-bahns throughout the country with the Deutschland ticket. This ticket is available to all students every semester, after successful enrollment for the semester. The price of the ticket is already included in the semester fees.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are very few restaurants that offer Indian food. Also, the food does not taste like authentic Indian food. There are a few vegetarian and vegan options. I prefer cooking myself to eating outside. You can find a couple of stores that sell Indian food products.

Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty members are always very friendly. The teachers motivate us to experiment with something new. They teach using different methods such as lectures, practical classes, project work, assignments, discussions, among other forms. While most of the faculty come from Germany, there are a few faculty members from other parts of the world.

Things to know about The University of Rostock
Tips: CSI course: Students are allowed to choose the courses they want to take each semester. It is best to look at the mandatory courses to take for your degree. There are multiple moral exams possible that last 20-30 minutes, which doesn't happen in India for final exams.
Likes (Safety): Rostock is a small town and hence, mostly, safe compared to other bigger cities like Berlin/Hamburg. People usually mind their own business, and nobody really cares what you do unless you are really misbehaving. It is not rare to find nice people, especially because there are a lot of students near the campus.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Knowing the language here plays a vital role in securing any job (even IT). Sometimes people don't get full-time jobs after graduation, and they end up starting another master's degree or doing a PhD just to save their residency status. The working student part-time jobs are limited only as long as you are a student.

Student life is good but after graduation the life gets difficult until getting a full time job.
Tips: Students should be prepared for independent learning. German language skills are very important not just for daily life but for job opportunities as well. The exams are mostly oral, so be prepared to read in and out of the subjects, the education system is entirely different from the Indian education system. Getting a scholarship is difficult but not impossible, I didn't avail a scholarship.
Likes (Public transportation): The public transportation is good here and is included in the University Fees. But the only problem is with the timings, they are never on time. It is well connected to big cities, but when it comes to smaller cities, the transportation is very limited.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Post-Study Job Prospects have been rated at 2/5 due to my own experience that obtaining full-time jobs after completing studies is not an easy task. My fellow students find it really difficult to obtain full-time jobs despite having good academic and technical profiles.
