Master of Science in Data Analytics - Batch of 2027
3.3
Masters at the George Washington University.
Tips: If you haven't been offered a scholarship, please do ask them, send them an email. They offer scholarships to almost every master's and PhD student, so don't miss out on that. In terms of transition, forget Indian food, especially buying it out, get all you need to cook Indian food from home, save time, money and most importantly, tastes so much better.
Likes (Public transportation): The campus is connected really well in terms of public transportation. Since Virginia is well connected because of the same they have pretty good Indian stores and restaurants compared to Foggy Bottom, DC. Hence, we make many trips. However safety is of no concern within the campus. If you're stepping out you may have to be cautious.
Dislikes (Part time work): Due to the new rules, any international student studying under the F1 visa can only work part time within campus. This, as a result created a huge competition towards getting these job roles. Its not that you cannot land a part time but you must constantly apply and you should be able to land a decent one within 3-6 months.
Part times are generally not that stressful. You can easily manage your studies as part times timings can be flexible depending on your class schedule. A point to note here is you may land a campus part time in a different campus you have free shuttles to connect you there from the main campus or you may use the metro, for which u can opt for the UPASS program which saves you a lot of money on public transportation.
The average payout for any part time is usually about 18 dollars per hour and you are allowed to work over 40 hours during vacation and 20 hours per week while classes are going on. The pay can go up to 20 dollars as well.

Diverse and Rewarding GWU
Tips: Newcomers should be prepared for a vibrant diverse community. Transitioning here involved adapting to a significant cultural shift enriching my global perspective. I secured a scholarship through academic merit.
Likes (Safety): Facilities like emergency call stations safety apps and escort services contribute to a secure environment. I haven't had any bad experiences in the city reinforcing my confidence in the university commitment to student safety.
Dislikes (Internships): George Washington University offers good support and resources for finding and applying to relevant internships in the Computer Science field though finding the perfect match requires personal effort and connections.

Lehigh offers strong career support.
Tips: Start your career planning early. STEM advantage networking matters. Public transport is reliable. Location proximity is good. Living without a vehicle is easy. Do things you never did. Go out more often. Stay career ready. Prepare yourself for every challenge. Be ready for it.
Likes (Public transportation): The campus is well-connected to Bethlehem and nearby cities through buses like LANTA, which are frequent, reliable, and student-friendly. Students often use the free university shuttle system as well. It is affordable and convenient, especially for travel.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Lehigh offers strong career support, and its STEM programs make you eligible for a 3-year OPT extension. Common job roles include Data Analyst, Software Developer, and Business Analyst, with starting salaries typically ranging from $70k-$90k. It’s worth it.

Strong academics but limited opportunities.
Tips: Lehigh's CS programme is rigorous with strong faculty but limited industry connections for international students. The suburban campus is quiet with moderate costs. Cultural adjustment involved adapting to active class participation and informal student-professor dynamics. Partial merit scholarships including 5,000-15,000/year are available through admission applications. TA/RA positions provide extra funding. Faculty are accessible with diverse international backgrounds. Teaching combines theory with practical projects. I am fairly satisfied with my experiences. The courses need more electives, and the university has good academics, but it is isolated.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty has strong academic and industry expertise. Professors are generally accessible offering regular office hours and prompt email response. The teaching methodology blend theory with hands on projects often incorporating real world case studies and research opportunities. The faculty is moderate diverse in terms of nationality with professors from the US India China Europe and other regions bringing varied perspectives to the curriculum.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Limited on campus recruitment for international students. Few companies actively sponsor visas. Common roles include Software Engineer 80,000 - 1,10,000, and Data Analyst. Most opportunities require OPT/CPT. Check Lehigh's career reports for exact sponsor counts. Networking is key for off-campus roles.

A culturally rich, academically rigorous, and supportive learning environment.
Tips: Before joining this college, students should be prepared for a rigorous academic environment with a strong emphasis on research and practical learning. Time management is crucial, as balancing coursework, projects, and extracurricular activities can be challenging. There is also great support from faculty and career services that students should take full advantage of. When I first arrived, I did feel a cultural shift, especially in terms of classroom dynamics and independence I gradually adapted. Interacting with international peers and being part of campus communities helped me transition smoothly.
Likes (Safety): The campus offers a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere with something for everyone. A typical day involves attending engaging lectures, participating in lab sessions, and spending time at student lounges or the library with friends. I enjoy the cultural fests, hackathons, and regular teach meetups the most. Our campus hosts a wide range of events, including sports-run clubs like coding clubs, cultural societies, entrepreneurship cell, and robotics teams, where I regularly participate and collaborate with peers. These experiences make student life exciting and enriching.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The professors are highly knowledgeable, supportive, and always willing to help outside of class hours. They are easily accessible through emails or scheduled office hours, and they genuinely care about students' academic progress. The teaching methodology includes a blend of theoretical instruction and practical, real-world applications, and it often involves project-based learning and interactive sessions. The faculty also encourages research and innovation, and the department has a diverse set of professors from various nationalities. This brings different perspectives to the class, which enhances the learning experience.
