Tips: It's a good university with a lot of courses. There are options for scholarships, but I did not know how to avail myself of them. I am 80 percent satisfied because the course was pretty old and needed some changes because of changing technology, but I am not sure about this year; it is always better to check the university website.
Likes (Value for money): Tuition feels is very less compared to other West region Universities. It was around 380 euros, which is very little compared to a few other universities. Also, there are some universities with fewer fests per semester as well. Also, Chemnitz is very cheap comparatively, having less rent.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): This region in East Germany requires good German skills compared to other regions, and typically it is harder for English speakers to land a job. That's a different story if you receive a job that's the work-from-home type. That's why 3, because it is not impossible.

Tips: Plan your finances. Get in international groups. Schedule and register for classes in advance. Learn German every day. There are many scholarship options, but you need to apply early with really good achievements. Try to communicate with others and learn many things.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): If you are a Blue Card holder and have worked 21 months in Germany with a B1 level of German, then you can be a permanent residency holder. Ways of living, health care, public transport, and work-life balance are good. I would not shift permanently due to high taxation and difficult bureaucracy. It is difficult with German bureaucracy. They do not support you if you cannot speak good German.
Dislikes (Part time work): Chemnitz is a smaller city, and there are not so many international student job opportunities due to the language barrier. If you can speak really good German, then it's good for you, but only English is not enough. For part-time workers and students, the pay rate is an average of 14 euro per hour.

Tips: As for the city itself, I barely felt any culture shock coming to Chemnitz. Because the international crowd on campus is so big, you end up hanging out mostly with other foreign students rather than really integrating into local German life. Everything feels pretty globalized anyway, so it wasn't the huge, transformative experience I pictured. Also, there are basically zero university scholarships—you're paying for everything yourself or working part-time. If you want an exotic study-abroad adventure, this isn't it; it's just a quiet, regular routine.
Likes (Public transportation): I gave public transport a high rating because getting around Chemnitz—and even traveling around Saxony—is effortless as a student. Your student ID includes the Semesterticket, which gives you unlimited rides on all the CVAG buses and trams in the city, plus regional trains across the whole state without paying anything extra.
The Reichenhainer Straße campus is connected directly by the tram lines, so getting to the city center, the main train station (Hbf), or local shopping spots takes no time at all. Buses and trams run around the clock, so getting around is dead cheap whether you're right next to campus or living further out.
Dislikes (Part time work): Low-economy region. Not many technical as well as odd jobs in this city and nearby area. Part-time work can be managed except the exam period depending on type of work and boss The average payout depends on time, location and type of work, but minimum wage start from 14 euro per hour.

My Experience at TU Chemnitz
Tips: Moving to Chemnitz was surprisingly smooth, mostly because the cost of living here is way cheaper than in major German cities. That said, getting used to the structured German lifestyle and picking up enough German to survive definitely took some time and effort. I didn't get any scholarships, so I had to self-fund everything by working part-time while studying.
At the end of the day, I'm glad I chose TU Chemnitz. The education quality is solid, the degree gives you practical technical skills that employers actually respect, and if you're willing to put in the work to learn the language and manage your time, the long-term career prospects in Germany make the effort totally worth it.
Dislikes (Internships): Getting an internship at TU Chemnitz is definitely a mixed bag, which is why I gave it a 3/5. On paper, there are plenty of solid automotive and engineering roles around, but actually landing one is a massive headache. Most firms want prior experience and fluent German—especially if you're working directly with local engineering teams or clients where English just won't cut it.
You basically have to send out dozens of applications and be open to moving or commuting to places like Dresden, Leipzig, or Zwickau where the bigger industrial opportunities are. The university’s job portal, career fairs, and resume workshops are fine for basic guidance, but don't expect them to place you anywhere—you have to do all the heavy lifting yourself.

It’s really good and easy to start international life being more Indian students
Tips: I am satisfied, and students should be hardworking and focused. No, I didn’t get scholarships because it is free already, Umm, except for food and climate; not much cultural shift, I would say. It’s just 300€ per sem, and transportation is free of cost here, so no more expenses.
Likes (Internships): It’s easy to get internships and part-time tech jobs. I work at Bosch, and it was not tough at all to get in. Focus on Bosch and its tasks and try to complete as soon as possible You need to apply to at least 10 jobs every day for 2-3 months to get it and prepare well.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking at home because German food is bland for Indians, and Indian restaurants are way too expensive. Indian groceries are not tough to find and cheap as well But make sure you get all the spices from India, as they are very much expensive.

Tips: Start learning German immediately—don't wait until you actually land in Chemnitz. Trying to get by on English alone makes life way harder than it needs to be. Even for basic part-time jobs, student worker positions (Werkstudent), or internships around Saxony, speaking German is pretty much essential—you will struggle to find anything if you only rely on English.
As for the academics, be prepared for a very traditional, theory-heavy curriculum. The coursework at TUDC/TU Chemnitz focuses heavily on fundamental theory and written exams rather than modern hands-on projects, so you'll need to do a lot of self-study to keep up. While the university facilities themselves are decent and the cost of living in Chemnitz is super cheap, the city itself can feel quiet and isolated compared to places like Leipzig, Dresden, or Munich. If you have offers from universities in bigger or more dynamic student cities, I’d honestly recommend considering those first.

Tips: I have a systematic way of living after coming to Germany. Started doing things by myself without asking anyone. There was not a big cultural shift, but I could say the way I used to live in india, that is entirely different from how I live now. No, I have not applied for any scholarships yet, may be in future, if any opportunity comes, I might apply. I am fully satisfied with the university, as they help you to learn things practically and give a lot of different opportunities to attain practical knowledge. Also, the course I do is one I like, because it's a combination of Physics and Chemistry, and I loved learning those.
Likes (Value for money): This place is good value for money because the living expenses here are cheap. The place has lower rent compared to other cities. So, staying here is much cheaper. Rent plus other expenses for food and insurance altogether will cost around 650 euros for me. So, if you have a part-time job, then you can manage the expenses and save a bit of money every month as well.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): This is because I intend to stay in Germany, provided there is an appropriate opportunity for me. However, on the contrary, it is that I have not decided anything about settling down permanently. As a matter of fact, what I want now is practical experience. Now, in this context, the possibility is moderate. Germany has its own procedure to settle skilled workers in Germany permanently based on certain conditions. Once you settle down there, the possibilities will become very high.

There’s always stuff happening with different student clubs and cultural fests where you can volunteer, get involved, and meet people from all over the place. On the money side, if you knuckle down and keep your grades sharp—we’re talking landing a solid 1.3 to 1.6 in the German system—you can actually grab some decent scholarships. The university itself hands out funding that’s worth around 600 euros a month for a full year, plus you can always look into extra grants through DAAD to help cover your living costs.
Likes (Internships): The master's program is designed in a way with a mandatory internship. So it's very easy to apply for an internship all around Germany without any hurdles. Also, your German-speaking skills and previous work experience play a major role, along with your network. The traveling is free and some great cities like Dresden, liepzig are near to Chemnitz and it's easy to find job there.
Dislikes (Indian Food): For vegetarians, there are very limited options for food. All things like pizza have two or three options for vegetarians. McDonald's only serves non veg burger, etc. For spices also it is very expensive and everytime you have to search for Indian stores to buy some things which are usually expensive.

TU Ilmenau - Affordable and with a Major Desi Community.
Tips: Transition is easy, as there is a major sub-continent's 'desi' community at the college. You won't face a major cultural shift and would find a nearby Indian shop carrying most spices and Indian stuff as well. As for scholarships, the college offers a 500u20ac semester grant. Since there is no education fee, that grant covers a student's major expenses. The university is nice, and the course is really tough, so be prepared to fail and to work hard to succeed. You can study at your own pace, whatever subjects you like, but be sure to target at least 20 credits a semester. Getting stuck into work or part-time could easily lead to failing the course and losing your student visa unless you find another course/university to join. I personally covered most of my major coursework before looking and starting at my current Werkstudent position. Overall, college is nice, really affordable and a course that does help a lot. But be prepared to look for work, and the time it would take to get a job in the current economy. One major, and very important thing, please learn the German Language to at least conversational B2 before coming to Germany. You can manage in English, but you will need German to actually be able to live.
Likes (Safety): Quite a small town, and extremely safe. You'll be able to move around places, and people are more than welcoming, as most know that it's a major University area. You might face issues with the language barrier if you don't know at least B2 conversational German. So try to ensure you have that at least.
Dislikes (Student Life): Decent college life, but college is in a small town, rather, it's a college town with nearly half the population being students. There are no movie theatres, malls, clubs or any places for recreational activities. You'll most likely be travelling to other places for fun. Outdoor stuff would be fine, like hiking, but college events are not something to write home about. Only the college fest in June is the best part of the year.

Nice small town university
Tips: It's a small university town. A lot fewer people than the big city university has. It is good; courses are challenging compared to India's, and you have to work hard. Tuition fees are lower, and you have the Deutschland ticket, so you can travel in public transport for free in all of Germany. Plus, small towns have less expensive accommodation; it is cheap, with lots of Indian students and diverse students. Lots of activities to do. Culture is really good.

Tips: Students should be prepared for a peaceful and nonchaotic environment. Ilmenau is a very small town and full of greenery. But you get almost everything here in this small town. TU Ilmenau is very research-oriented. The international community are very active, and they have multiple clubs and organizations.

You will get up to 18 months on a job seeker visa, and then after landing a job and crossing a certain threshold in salary, you are eligible for a blue card, and then you can apply for PR after a few months.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I rated it 4/5 because I believe Germany has very good opportunities for international students, and yes, language plays a very important factor. Learning German makes things easy. Many people get full-time jobs after graduation, but effort is needed in every field, as the market is very competitive.

I have actually experienced a lot of cultural differences between India and Germany. No, I did not have any scholarships; normally if you have a stellar profile, you will land a scholarship easily. I am very much satisfied with TU Ilmenau.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The academic staff here are all highly knowledgeable, and I find them extremely helpful regarding the explanation of topics, and also they are extremely friendly and humble. If a student has any doubt, they can contact the professor during academic hours or take an appointment to resolve their doubts.
Dislikes (Part time work): I rated part-time work low because Ilmenau is a tiny university town, so local job options are extremely limited compared to bigger cities. Unless you get lucky with a HiWi research position on campus, finding an off-campus student job without fluent German is nearly impossible. Pay is fine when you do land something, but expect months of waiting and heavy competition for the few open spots in town.

Tips: It's a nice university with many options for degrees. It has a very international crowd, especially Asian. But it is very small; there is not much to do here, and getting jobs (part-time, full-time) is difficult. If students want to come to study, then it's a nice place, but if they are thinking the learnings would be like Canada and Australia, then it's not the right place to come.
Likes (Safety): Ilmenau is a very safe and peaceful town, unlike big cities such as Berlin. Because it's a small town with an international crowd, it's quite safe. This town is not very crowded, and mostly old people live in East Germany, so it's part of that. And also the town is quite pretty.
Dislikes (Part time work): Because of many factors. To get a part-time job, you need German, and it is not always available. As the location is a town and a big city, jobs are quite difficult to find. If someone wants to come just for study, then it's good. But many students end up taking loans, which are difficult to pay back while living here.

Tips: Like there are many cultural differences that are present in Germany, and you will get acclimatized to them once you start living here. I didn't get any external scholarship. I am satisfied with my university and data science course and Germany. This is what I will say.
Likes (Student Life): Apart from all other colleges I have known from my friends living in Germany, TU Ilmenau is a vibrant place where there are many clubs and societies that can help you attain knowledge beyond classwork. There are many clubs in filmmaking, arts, and vehicle racing.
Dislikes (Part time work): Like, there are very limited part-time opportunities in Ilmenau, and it is hard to land a role if you don't speak German. It is very difficult to manage part-time while studying parallelly because the examination structure here is different in comparison to India.
