Tips: It's a good university with a lot of courses. There are options for scholarships, but I did not know how to avail myself of them. I am 80 percent satisfied because the course was pretty old and needed some changes because of changing technology, but I am not sure about this year; it is always better to check the university website.
Likes (Value for money): Tuition feels is very less compared to other West region Universities. It was around 380 euros, which is very little compared to a few other universities. Also, there are some universities with fewer fests per semester as well. Also, Chemnitz is very cheap comparatively, having less rent.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): This region in East Germany requires good German skills compared to other regions, and typically it is harder for English speakers to land a job. That's a different story if you receive a job that's the work-from-home type. That's why 3, because it is not impossible.

Tips: Plan your finances. Get in international groups. Schedule and register for classes in advance. Learn German every day. There are many scholarship options, but you need to apply early with really good achievements. Try to communicate with others and learn many things.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): If you are a Blue Card holder and have worked 21 months in Germany with a B1 level of German, then you can be a permanent residency holder. Ways of living, health care, public transport, and work-life balance are good. I would not shift permanently due to high taxation and difficult bureaucracy. It is difficult with German bureaucracy. They do not support you if you cannot speak good German.
Dislikes (Part time work): Chemnitz is a smaller city, and there are not so many international student job opportunities due to the language barrier. If you can speak really good German, then it's good for you, but only English is not enough. For part-time workers and students, the pay rate is an average of 14 euro per hour.

Tips: As for the city itself, I barely felt any culture shock coming to Chemnitz. Because the international crowd on campus is so big, you end up hanging out mostly with other foreign students rather than really integrating into local German life. Everything feels pretty globalized anyway, so it wasn't the huge, transformative experience I pictured. Also, there are basically zero university scholarships—you're paying for everything yourself or working part-time. If you want an exotic study-abroad adventure, this isn't it; it's just a quiet, regular routine.
Likes (Public transportation): I gave public transport a high rating because getting around Chemnitz—and even traveling around Saxony—is effortless as a student. Your student ID includes the Semesterticket, which gives you unlimited rides on all the CVAG buses and trams in the city, plus regional trains across the whole state without paying anything extra.
The Reichenhainer Straße campus is connected directly by the tram lines, so getting to the city center, the main train station (Hbf), or local shopping spots takes no time at all. Buses and trams run around the clock, so getting around is dead cheap whether you're right next to campus or living further out.
Dislikes (Part time work): Low-economy region. Not many technical as well as odd jobs in this city and nearby area. Part-time work can be managed except the exam period depending on type of work and boss The average payout depends on time, location and type of work, but minimum wage start from 14 euro per hour.

My Experience at TU Chemnitz
Tips: Moving to Chemnitz was surprisingly smooth, mostly because the cost of living here is way cheaper than in major German cities. That said, getting used to the structured German lifestyle and picking up enough German to survive definitely took some time and effort. I didn't get any scholarships, so I had to self-fund everything by working part-time while studying.
At the end of the day, I'm glad I chose TU Chemnitz. The education quality is solid, the degree gives you practical technical skills that employers actually respect, and if you're willing to put in the work to learn the language and manage your time, the long-term career prospects in Germany make the effort totally worth it.
Dislikes (Internships): Getting an internship at TU Chemnitz is definitely a mixed bag, which is why I gave it a 3/5. On paper, there are plenty of solid automotive and engineering roles around, but actually landing one is a massive headache. Most firms want prior experience and fluent German—especially if you're working directly with local engineering teams or clients where English just won't cut it.
You basically have to send out dozens of applications and be open to moving or commuting to places like Dresden, Leipzig, or Zwickau where the bigger industrial opportunities are. The university’s job portal, career fairs, and resume workshops are fine for basic guidance, but don't expect them to place you anywhere—you have to do all the heavy lifting yourself.

It’s really good and easy to start international life being more Indian students
Tips: I am satisfied, and students should be hardworking and focused. No, I didn’t get scholarships because it is free already, Umm, except for food and climate; not much cultural shift, I would say. It’s just 300€ per sem, and transportation is free of cost here, so no more expenses.
Likes (Internships): It’s easy to get internships and part-time tech jobs. I work at Bosch, and it was not tough at all to get in. Focus on Bosch and its tasks and try to complete as soon as possible You need to apply to at least 10 jobs every day for 2-3 months to get it and prepare well.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking at home because German food is bland for Indians, and Indian restaurants are way too expensive. Indian groceries are not tough to find and cheap as well But make sure you get all the spices from India, as they are very much expensive.

Tips: Start learning German immediately—don't wait until you actually land in Chemnitz. Trying to get by on English alone makes life way harder than it needs to be. Even for basic part-time jobs, student worker positions (Werkstudent), or internships around Saxony, speaking German is pretty much essential—you will struggle to find anything if you only rely on English.
As for the academics, be prepared for a very traditional, theory-heavy curriculum. The coursework at TUDC/TU Chemnitz focuses heavily on fundamental theory and written exams rather than modern hands-on projects, so you'll need to do a lot of self-study to keep up. On the money side, if you knuckle down and keep your grades sharp—we’re talking landing a solid 1.3 to 1.6 in the German system—you can actually grab some decent scholarships. The university itself hands out funding that’s worth around 600 euros a month for a full year, plus you can always look into extra grants through DAAD to help cover your living costs.

You can find off-campus jobs quite easily in Dresden and Leipzig, but you have to travel at least 1 hour. If you can speak German up to the B1 level, you can easily find part-time jobs in Chemnitz with good pay.

The traveling is free and some great cities like Dresden, liepzig are near to Chemnitz and it's easy to find job there.
Dislikes (Indian Food): For vegetarians, there are very limited options for food. All things like pizza have two or three options for vegetarians. McDonald's only serves non veg burger, etc. For spices also it is very expensive and everytime you have to search for Indian stores to buy some things which are usually expensive.

You do get to pick five electives to tailor things a bit, but don't expect a hands-on, industry-style coding boot camp—this is old-school German academic rigor.
The exam system here is a massive culture shock if you're coming from the Indian education system. Everything is strictly offline, usually a tight two-hour grind for 100 marks. If you're used to writing long, fluff-filled abstract answers to claw back partial credit, forget it. The professors here want short, mathematically perfect answers. To make it worse, the passing bar is brutal—usually around 50% to 60%, which is way higher than what we are used to back home.

Tips: Look, the biggest trap at Siegen—especially if you're doing a tough tech degree like Computer Science, AI, or Engineering—is letting your part-time job completely hijack your schedule. Tips: Learn German at least B1-B2. Because it's a small German city and usually very few people speak English. No part-time jobs if you don't know German. University is free of cost. Needs to pay around 300 euro per semester, but it includes a semester ticket. You can travel throughout Germany with that ticket (not on ICE (Intercity Express)).
Likes (Permanent Immigration): If you get a full-time job and salary around 50k euro per year, you can get permanent residency after 21 months. It's best for settlement, but taxes are too high. If you are single and not having any children, you have to give almost half of your salary to the government. This needs to be considered while looking for permanent settlement.
Dislikes (Public transportation): No public transportation after 12 am. There are no Strassenbahn, U-bahn, S-bahn, or ICE (like in Munich or Frankfurt) at Siegen railway station; the only option is the regional express. Two big stations are nearby Frankfurt, 2 hours from Siegen; all trains and flights are possible from there. and Cologne is 1.5 hours from Siegen. Also, all trains and airports are there.

Less Stress Than I Expected, More Learning Than I Imagined
Tips: Moving out here to Siegen was definitely a massive shock to the system at first. Dealing with the language barrier and trying to navigate the absolute nightmare that is German bureaucracy took some serious getting used to. Culturally, people here are intensely private, hyper-punctual, and very independent, which was a total 180 from what I grew up with back home. It takes a few months to finally find your feet. Thankfully, the university itself is super welcoming, and honestly, hanging out and trauma-bonding with other international students is what makes the whole transition so much easier. On the financial side, no, I didn't get any scholarships during my time here—I had to fund the whole thing myself. But looking back at everything, I'm still incredibly satisfied with how it all turned out both for my personal growth and the academics.
Likes (Safety): I gave safety a high rating because, honestly, living and studying in Siegen feels incredibly secure. Apart from the standard campus security, Germany as a whole is just a very safe place to navigate. I’ve never felt weird using public transport here, even when I'm catching a late-night bus or train back to my flat. The university sets you up with all the necessary emergency contacts and counseling info from day one, and the campus infrastructure is always kept in solid shape.
The only real trade-off—and why it’s not a flawless paradise—is that Siegen is pretty small. Dislikes (Part time work): 1) Getting a part-time job is hard because most of the jobs require the German language. However, you can still find a part-time job on an English basis. But communication during the work requires basic German. Therefore, it's quite hard to get part-time jobs. 2) Studying while doing jobs is kind of hard, but with proper time management, you can do it. Overall, people in Germany believe in work-life balance. So it works; it doesn't affect the study. 3) average pay, between 1000 and 1300 euros.

Great Experience and it was really once in a lifetime opportunity
Tips: If you're coming to the University of Siegen, you need to know that breaking into the local German culture can take some serious time—it definitely did for me—but you absolutely have to throw yourself into it if you want to experience a completely different side of life. Overall, I’ve been really happy with my time here because the German uni system gives you a massive amount of flexibility to map out your own studies, pick up part-time work, and figure out your career at your own pace. I didn't land any scholarships, so I had to hustle hard and juggle a few different minijobs just to keep cash flowing and cover my monthly expenses. The silver lining was that grinding through all those part-time gigs gave me a ton of practical work experience, which honestly made a world of difference and helped me land a proper full-time job right after graduating.

Honest Review of Uni Siegen
Tips: German language C1 is required for getting jobs. B1 is not enough. IT jobs are at high risk. The university is very good. Courses are amazing. Professors are highly experienced. The campus is spread across the town. Siegen is a hill city. Mensa food is fine. There are a lot of activities happening on campus.
Likes (Safety): People in Siegen are good. A lot of the South Indian community is there. It is very safe at night as well. There are a lot of elderly people and students everywhere. There are a lot of international people all around Siegen. I never had a bad experience regarding safety.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): There are barely any full-time job openings in Germany. If you don't speak fluent German, you won't be entertained. But if I had a chance to settle in Germany, I would. Language is a must in Germany. The companies reply very late, and the Rathaus is also very slow. Everything happens on paper only.

One can take admission without expectations
Tips: This college has a good name in field of automation and robotics. If one is interested in any of these fields they should definitely go for it. Since, it is a public university, it is manageable financially and I have received a scholarship here. As of now, I am somewhat satisfied.
Likes (Value for money): I have scholarship, I don't have to pay any fees. It is a public college and hence I don't pay any fees. In college sometimes you might feel lectures are a bit boring but laboratories are a good learning. There are so many benefits of being a college student.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The public transportation system is not good. It is not as reliable as it should be. While there are some buses and train lines that connect Siegen with other cities as well but they are often late or cancelled. There will always be a limitation of public transportation.
