MSc in Software Design with Cloud Native Computing - Batch of 2024
2.7
Good college. No racial abuse. Lower tuition fees.
Tips: This is a small town. All the shops close at 6:30, depending on the season. Do not come here with an expectation of happening life. It's very boring. If you are determined to get a work life here, you really need to be focused; it's a very competitive job industry. Many have gone back after 2 years of a job seeker visa. Come to this college if you want to spend as little as possible on tuition fees, make the most out of the opportunity you are getting here and be very focused and determined to get a sponsored job. Otherwise, I promise you are wasting your time, money, and energy. Plus the weather gets crazy from time to time which adds to your depression. People rarely mention that. It's a real concern.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Getting a sponsored job is the real job here; once that is done, a residence permit is easy. Till you get a job, you have to renew your residence permit every year which would cost you 300 euros and a mandatory medical insurance that costs 250.
Dislikes (Internships): The number of companies offering internships is very low compared to the number of students trying to get internships. Depends on resume reach, contact and other factors as well. Only 1 in my batch was able to secure an internship which was converted into a full time job later.

It is rare to find on-campus jobs so opt for off-campus part-time work.
Tips: I got a 4000 euro scholarship based on my past experience and undergraduate scores. While the courses are very good, some professors are rude and biased, so I recommend being kind to everyone. The best part is that the Irish people are very humble.
Likes (Safety): All is safe. No junkies. Garda is everywhere, and has cc tvs all along the roads, mostly. But have to be careful when driving scooters because the roads are slippery as it rains mostly in Ireland. Always wear sweaters and gloves on your hands to avoid freezing. People are good, but be careful with people under 18.
Dislikes (Part time work): There are only four or five jobs on campus, and it is rare to find on-campus jobs. Therefore, it's better to search for off-campus part-time work. There are a few part-time jobs in Athlone. It's manageable to work part-time while in school. The basic pay that everyone gets is 13.5 euros per hour.

Overall Good. Some faculties are really great
Tips: One should have industrial experience before. The college will not spoon-feed everything. Some things you need to explore on your own. College is in a small town, so it is better if you are looking for a financially friendly college. As it saves accommodation costs. Staff is friendly.

Every penny spent on this university is value for money.
Tips: I received a scholarship from the university after getting the offer letter. I didn't get any more scholarships but you can claim the taxes for the tuition fee that you paid before joining this college. Students should be familiar with the academic structures available courses and campus facilities. This university provides excellent academic resources and the course curriculum is also very good.
Likes (Post study jobs):
There is a lot of competition for jobs in Ireland especially for fresh graduates. But if you are good at your studies and have the right skills you should be able to find a job relatively easily. There are graduate roles that fresh graduates can apply for and these roles often lead to internships and permanent positions. These roles often require a degree in a specific field such as computer science engineering or business. If you have a degree in one of these fields you should be able to find a graduate role that is a good fit for your skills and interests.
Dislikes (Indian Food): In Athlone there are only two or three good Asian restaurants. The price is reasonable. A garlic naan is two euros and chicken curry and vegetable curries are available. The taste is similar to what we get in India. I mostly cook for myself.

Don't waste your money. Stay in your company. Upskill your skill set.
Tips: Students should know that there are no Jobs in Ireland right now. These agents and universities are money-hungry. Please don't listen to them. Do your research. The pay scale is pathetic compared to other countries. Invest your money wisely. Work hard where you are right now.

University of Tennessee, Knoxville Review
Tips: The university is very good, but it is more famous for its PhD programs than its undergraduate programs. This is probably because the university is a close partner of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). The tuition and fees are on the higher side for a public university, and most of the scholarships were available to PhD and bachelor's students in my department.
Likes (Student Life): The University of Tennessee, Knoxville has a great campus to explore, and a wide variety of events take place on campus. There are student clubs and communities for all types of interests. The events range from sporting events to Halloween and Food Festivals to International Coffee House once in 2 weeks to Diwali, Holi, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The public transportation system is not so well connected with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. There are a few bus routes that run from the campus, and while they are affordable, they are not very convenient. The university does run a few bus routes around campus for students who live nearby.

Amazing faculty. Totally worth it.
Tips: Rent's gone up almost twice in the last 4 years. So a cool tip to new students: move out to either South Knoxville or near Alcoa and come by car. You will need the car anyway so take the car first and don't spend on rent. Travel more, Knoxville is beautiful.
Likes (Quality of faculty): UT's faculty are great. I mostly know graduation students and most of them do their experiments on campus. All the high-teach cutting-edge instruments are available with the right faculty members (nearby ORNL is a plus). Some of the departments, especially the engineering ones are great.
Dislikes (Public transportation): Public transportation is worth it if you live ~4-5 miles from campus/downtown (but the rent's pretty high around that part). Anything beyond it takes forever. Also, the hill terrain makes bike computing problematic. Transportation is affordable but it costs time.

Financing intelligently is significant here.
Tips: I would like to mention one thing, which is pretty straightforward - if you are coming here as a Bachelors/Masters student without any scholarship, please make sure you have your financial plan ready for the necessary funds to cover your tuition fees + living expenses. Relying on campus jobs for living expenses is not reliable. Sure, you get some money, but it can help you cover your wants, not needs.
Likes (Student Life): There's always a lot of stuff that keeps happening on the campus. If you can manage your time effectively and prioritize what you like to do, you'll like your student life. There's the football season in the fall and other sports that happen in the Springs, Basketball being one of the most popular.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Knoxville does not have many options for Indian Food. It still developing, better options might come up in the future. For Non-Vegetarian, there are always options available. For Vegetarian, obviously not much. I prefer cooking 80% of the time, and doing meal prep. Cooking would be the best way to eat whatever you like at a minimal cost any day.

University overall is fine but depends on department to department
Tips: There is a whole cultural shift after moving here. It's totally different but in a good way. I was on scholarship but I was ready to spend it all as the living cost is high. I am fully satisfied with the university as it is one of the best in the world but being a student as well as TA workload is too much.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): Good cost of living, a nice and peaceful city. I like it here as people are really nice and helpful to each other. Big cities are also not far away and have good connectivity by road and by air. Also the weather is really nice as not too cold winters and not too hot summers.
Dislikes (Internships): Most professors don't want students to go to internships as most internships happen in the summer and professors want to spend that time in the lab. There are a lot of internship opportunities available relative to the field but getting a chance to grab those opportunities is low as your professor won't let you go for an internship.
